It's a Wonderful Life!!!
The wife and I were watching Frank Capra's classic "It's a Wonderful Life." If you've seen the film (and I don't know many who haven't seen it) you know the characters: George Bailey, his wife Mary, the Angel Clarence, and mean old Mister Potter. Every time Potter says a line I just got the image of a man who very much resembles that miserable old miser who only cares about himself and increasing his own net gain. His actions during the War in the movie was incredibly memorable as the miserable draft officer who sends the young and healthy to war (who disappoint him by coming back alive and heroes...that was another age.) As the movie progressed even physically (and health wise) he began to resemble someone who is "near and dear" to all our hearts.

The more I thought about it the resemblance is uncanny. Would you happen to agree?

Mr. Potter the original Neocon!

3. I watch it every year
...and you aren't the only one who thought about the resemblance! I think ole man Potter was a little nicer than Cheney, though. Cheney would have had George Bailey sent to Gitmo and tortured until he gave up suzu's petals.

4. George Baily and Billy
and the rest of the town find out that Ole Mr. Potter,
stole the money and just beat the living hell out of him
threw him and the wheel chair down the steps, best scene there
ever was. Saturday Night Live, I wish someone could find a clip of that
and post it, it was great.

6. Would Dennis Miller still play Billy?
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 10:10 AM by YOY
Dana Carvey would still play George!

I love that skit. It reminds me of when I thought SNL was funny. Maybe it was back then.

12. The was also the skit about George Bailey's S&L scandal
"George Bailey: Well, I-i see you've finally got your wings. They're sort of like insect wings..
Clarence: Yes, they're beetle wings, to be precise. It turns out I was the victim of a cruel joke."

5. Always thought they looked similar.
The real difference is that Mr. Potter seems so much more like a real character and not some hack writers archetype of true evil.

7. Does Cheney have a skull on his desk too?
Potter has a skull on his desk in the movie, watch for it. How much you want to bet Cheney has one as well?

9. Yeah, but George had a raven in his office
What was that about? In the first half of the 20th century did people have large black birds in their offices regularly?

13. That's just weird...or really interesting...
as from Wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Raven

"Because of its black plumage, croaking call, and diet of carrion, the raven has long been considered a bird of ill omen and of interest to creators of myths and legends."

Ill Omen.
Interest to creators of myths and legends.

Interesting...
