Who we lost in 2005: From Rosa Parks to Johnny Carson to who we cared for
A stunning reminder of our losses this year, and yet once again it is like any other year. For Everything There Is A Season. Nevertheless, this wonderful list is worth checking out. On a site devoted to reminding us of the value of life, while it honors those who are gone. And to DUers who said goodbye to loved ones, a reminder of our humanity, and the importance of caring for one another. Check it out.

1. Wow.
When you hear of all the passings one by one it doesn't seem like it was that many. But we lost a lot of good ones. I hadn't even heard that Teresa Wright and Virginia Mayo had died. A lot of good people on that list.

8. Two of my six!
I have to change it soon because my other cats are getting jealous and saying "why are Tabitha and Quincy so special?" Lots of hissing going on. :D

13. Aww, thanks.
Those two do get along pretty good. My gray cat, Tabitha is very mellow. Orange Quincy isn't as mellow (he likes to chase some of the others) but he is with her. They are real pals.:-)

5. I never claimed it was totally inclusive. That's not the point.
It also doesn't list all the 22 year olds dead in a neocon war, but be that as it may, it's not the point. Honoring mortality and loss are a part of any year end; as I get older, I realize that more. You can add your own names. This isn't a greatest hits list.

6. I didn't mean to imply anything.
I'm just still sad about the death of Thompson. He was the first person who came to mind when I saw your thread.

9. I know it's not inclusive, but how many of the people listed had
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 07:19 PM by stopbush
a real, lasting or significant impact on our lives?

Paul Winchell, Howard Morris, Barbara Bel Geddes, Eddie Guerrero, Teresa Wright??? They list only 48 people and they're on it?

Where's Frank Perdue, Bobby Short...and Rose Mary Woods?

Here's a more-inclusive source:

Your point of remembering the departed is well taken, though.

14. Ask the Boomers about Paul Winchell. Your omissions are correct.
I hope we can compile a list of all these names, and send them to Find A Grave. It's a great site, but needs our help.

17. Winchell actually contributed more than most entertainers...
he invented the first artificial heart. Remarkable. A man of many talents.

21. Hunter is in the "Authors & Writers" category....
"---All Categories--" just shows the big names. The other categories show a lot more.

For example, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown is in the musical category. He's also featured in the Houston Press's annual roundup of Rock Deaths, using the "Greil Marcus Death Meter."

Musical embodiment of the Gulf Coast Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, 81, cancer
PC: 9, FC: 2, M: 7*. Total: 18
*Extra points for refusing treatment for his cancer in favor of continuing to smoke pot and retreating from Katrina not to Houston, where M.D. Anderson awaited, but to Orange, because that was where he was from and where he wanted to die.

4. Terri Schiavo??? No offense....but.....wow.
I am well aware of the controversy etc, but seriously? Am I being a little cold on this one when it comes to listing Terry?
My grandfather died this year, he was a wonderful, caring man who worked hard for his family etc. Don't see him.
