In as few, or as many words you want, answer this...

How would you describe the mood of the country right now?

1. Pensive...
with a lot of wingers now more silent than they were a few years ago. The fact that the emperor has no clothes is starting to penetrate. It's like we are waiting for the other shoe to drop after one disaster after another. Maybe another terror attack, natural disaster, or white house indictment. There is a lot of arrows headed toward the GOP & we are waiting for them to hit their mark.

2. Free floating anxiety
Even the right wingers and fundies who say they're absolutely right about absolutely everything have a sense of uncertainty, anxiety that something out there just isn't right, and of impending disaster.

They're just too dumb to know where it's coming from.

but with a slight shift in awakening, to the relief of the awake, and to the dismay of the sleeping selfish.

25. Cautious, yes...
More ambivalent, I'd say, than pessimistic. There are some that are negative, but most I know and meet are just thinking: "It is what it is. I wish it'd get better, but I'm not hopeful."

10. Anxious, uncertain, uncomfortable...
and a bit worried. Everyone knows - even the repukes - that things are not right, that we're off track. No one likes the way things are going, here and around the world. A lot of people don't have any idea why they feel like they do. (do you feel like you do...oh, that's true - cue wah wah pedal)

14. Well, it's right before Christmas and I think that moderates things
a bit.

Before, tho, it was pretty strongly anti-Bush and angry about the war, and just about everything else. Once January gets here, things may get back to that, depending on the success of Georgie's charm offensive.

17. In denial
Unable and unwilling to accept basic facts. The delusion is not obvious, but is very clear when anything about politics is brought up.

However, many people's faith has been shaken. They are unsure, many people don't know how to feel.

Just a few random thoughts.

19. shitty bordering on euphoric
the lemmings somehow think FoxNews and Bush are gonna "make things all better" and suddenly everyone will see the light regarding how good a one party system and C-student president are for our country.

the others of us are feeling very bad about all that has happened but can just taste a complete roll of the GOP in 2006 as all the pent up rage, disappointment, and yearning for change boils over in November to sweep GOP out of congressional power.

20. Apathetic & selfish
When it comes right down to it, most of the sheep only care about what affects them directly, like the price of gas.

Polar bears and wolves that might die because of imminent Republican oil drilling in the Arctic? Ah, shit, that's too many miles away to care about them. Soliers and Iraqis dying and getting maimed 6000 miles away? Ahh, it'll all work out. Meanwhile, that hummer is idling out in the driveway. Gotta run now.

24. unsure of itself

which is to say: four years of stupid bravado and bad ideas are ending in whimpers and a lot of pathetic lying by the Right wing Herrenvolk.

We've got another couple of months of morons ('conservatives') going End Times wacky on us to endure. Then things get better.

31. Resigned
Those who haven't maxed out their credit and those with big $$$ will just carry on as usual with their chronic shopping and jewel-encrusted parties.

They hope this time-honored coping mechanism will bring them out of their sense of shame and guilt.

The rest of us are bracing for a very rough winter. There isn't much time to worry about the Big Picture when the Small Picture is getting so dramatic.

We trudge along...
