Poll indicates that Lieberman could be vulnerable in a Dem primary
Overall according to a Survey USA poll of 600 adults it would seem that Lieberman is in a strong position. He has a 63-31 percent approval rating. BUT among Democrats his approval rating is 59-36 percent and among liberals, which includes the activists who actually turn out in a Democratic primary Lieberman's approval rating is only 52-41 percent. Lieberman is strongest with Republicans where he has a 69-24 percent approval rating.

What this tells me is that it could, potentially, be more difficult for Lieberman to win the Democratic primary than the general election. You can bet that in a Democratic primary liberal/progressives would turn out in force to send Lieberman and other pro-war Democrats a message. A well-financed (Move-On has indicated it would help fund a democratic primary challenge to Lieberman)respectable Democratic challenge to Lieberman focused on the war in Iraq has the potential, imo, of defeating the Senator in the primary.

1. Would love to see bush campaigning for lieberman
in a democratic primary. Why wouldn't he? Why wouldn't lieberman invite him? Why doesn't joe do the right thing and join the gop?

10. Suspicions confirmed, I'd say.
 Show me a "Democrat" whose approval ratings are higher among Repiglickers and I'll show you the institutionalized hypocrisy of partisan politics - an overcompensation for appalling ignorance of the issues.

7. OK. Then what?
Let's say we run a progressive against Lieberman. And let's say the progressive wins. Hell, let's say Lieberman completely sells out and becomes the Sec. of Def., as rumors have stated (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/372921p-316984c.html). In any case, what then? Given a leftwing candidate, the GOP will run to the middle, nominating a moderate in the line of Lincoln Chafee or Olympia Snowe. And then, we probably lose to the GOP. I'd rather have Lieberman than anoher Republican.

11. I don't doubt an antiwar Democrat can win elections...
I doubt an all-around leftwing candidate can win a statewide election in Connecticut against a moderate Republican (of course, that's an oxymoron, I should say "alleged moderate Republican").
