Dick Feagler
Plain Dealer Columnist

One good reason to tell the truth is that it's hard to hang on to a lie.

Like George W. Bush is doing with Iraq.

Any cop will tell you they know about liars and how they lie. It's a basic course at the police academy.

The big tip-off is always when the story changes. The first time the perp tells you a story, he's gonna make it sound good for him. But then you try to break him down. And if he changes his story, you got something - a little crack - that maybe you can pry open to get to the truth...

2. Politicians and Corporate Media Are Afraid of The "L" Word...
LIE (sorry for shouting...uh, no I'm not!!!!). The Froomkin fiasco at the WAPO is case example of the intimidation factor of this Rovian regime on the mouthpieces of our "free press" and their knee-jerk over-reactions to critisms from the White House and its operatives.

Politicians say they were "mis-led" or we had "improper intelligence", they're afraid to say what we all know to be the truth...this invasion was based on lies and rigged intelligence and propaganda along with an intimidation campaign. It was a war of opportunity and continues to plunder both Iraq and the U.S. of blood and treasure...yet the corporate media is afraid of saying there's that big elephant in the room.

The reason? They're afraid of losing access...the "dish" that makes the byline go above the fold or gets them on the cable talk shows or gives that one big boost to the resume...it's a corporate media that sees its own self survival and interests as paramount to the professions they supposedly chose to practice.

Slowly, I am seeing some progress. The other night, I think it was Tweety who is now taking the position...or the assumption...that the run-up to this invasion was based on some kind of deception and is willing to connect some of the dots, but most of the stenographers out there continue to fear the wrath of "the boss"...getting the "phone call" or not having theirs returned.

Kudos to the bloggers who have been exposing the cause/effect of the Rove machine...again, the WAPO/Harris situation is the latest of many. It's time for some "push back" on our own.

Cheers...
