May We Remind The Wingers Of The REAL Meaning Of Christmas?

Giving, caring, family togetherness and PEACE ON EARTH.

With the Right Wingers whining about the attack (they imagine is going on) against Christmas, it is time to remember that the very folks doing the bitching are in fact the ones attacking the very values for which Christmas stands.

Any chance that Bill O'Reilly has been down working at his local soup kitchen this year? Have he or his kind worked to bring peace to the world this holiday season? Would they know the real spirit of Christmas if it walked up and bit them on the ass? Somehow I doubt it.

If working to protect Christmas and what it stands for is their goal, let them bring their energy to promoting charity and peace and stop their pointless persecution complex. Christmas is not about making up imagined slights to divide people. It is about bringing them together. Let them spend their time on that goal!

but a "Christmas" tree... you know, the ones that have been cut down (killed) and used for ostentatious display of hyper-religiosity. :eyes:

34. Nobody is worshipping a tree
Come on, this is getting dumb.

Its a Christmas tree. People put them in thier house because it makes them feel like they have the holiday spirit (feeling). Kids love them because that is where Santa puts the presents.

What is wrong with you people?

Why prove the wack job, right wingers right???

The hate on here is getting worse than the Freep zone.

43. Uh, yeah...............
It's a Pagan Mithra tree.... any that have one are worshiping Pagan Gods. .... any that deny the pagan roots of the 'tree' must also believe in 'intelligent creationism'.

Those that try to dismiss the fictional 'attack on Christmas' as being just a 'thing' are also likely to support the 'swift boaters'.

We're catching on.

46. If you are implying that I supported the "swift boaters"
Then you are a complete asshole.

I never heard of this "attack on Christmas" until I came to the DU. I thought it was complete bullshit. Then I read these post from people, I can see why people think the way they do.

I am catholic, I was raised catholic, and I am raising my children catholic.

I have no idea why you have to be nasty about my religion. I couldn't care less if you believed or not. However, you do not have to laugh at those of us that do. It does you no harm. "I" do you no harm.

If some catholic, or Christian zealiot, does or says nonsense, then they do so in thier name, don't attack the religion because of the actions of a few. That is just as DUMB as hating all Muslums beacuse of the actions of a few.

When you attack and make fun of Christians you are no better than the redneck, toothless moron that "hates all dem muslems".

Oh, and if you didn't get my meaning?

Blow me.

7. I see no sign of the WOC here in Columbus.
There are Christmas decorations everywhere. One of our FM stations plays Christmas carols 24/7. All the stores are pushing Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. The whole area is saturated with Christmas.

Something that intrigues me is that hundreds of churches, including the "megachurches" the fundies like so much, are evidently cancelling services on Christmas Sunday so that the devout can stay home and eat, open presents, and watch football. That's right! No church service on Christmas Sunday. And yet it is Wal-Mart that is "taking the Christ out of Christmas" with their evil, Satanic "Happy holidays" signs.

These WOC people truly are mentally ill. They need help, and soon.

John Lennon, Happy Christmas (War is over)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

10. To lure women to the church with cute tales of the infant Jesus?
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 10:50 AM by patcox2
Thats the meaning. The nativity stories are targeted advertising to appeal to the simple and the sentimental. What an approachable God, this God who I could hold in my hands like a baby! Maybe my child is God! Its a motherhood cult which makes women happy to stay home and raise children.

The only fairly reliable parts of the gospels are the teachings of Jesus. Even seminary professors readily admit that the nativity stories are fairy tales.

Associating the commandments to "love one another" and "goodwill towards man" with christmas only cheapens them. You are supposed to act like its christmas every day. Making it a special day to love your fellow man reduces the obligation by 364/365ths.

17. People are all talk.
My husband's family will always state not to spend on gifts and that it is the togetherness of the whole thing and appreciating each other. Then they show up anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours late (yes, a couple of years ago it was 2 hours!), they ignore you and they race off to go home the first chance they get!!!!

I try to push my 'agenda' through gifts. There is a wine company who gives a portion of proceeds to help save the rain forest. There are a ton of breast cancer awareness products out there. There is a company called 'Philosophy' who have wonderful products where they have certain bath and body products that give a 100% of the proceeds to breast cancer awareness, the rain forest or homelessness - depending on which product you buy. Guess what types of gifts I am giving to people this year.

The people on my gift list can do whatever they want with the products but at least my money will be making a statement with my gifts. Perhaps it may even open someone's eyes as to how you are supposed to act during this holiday season.

25. well in that case...
...they should know that what we refer to as "Christmas Day" was originally known as "THE FEAST OF SATURN, BIRTHDAY OF THE UNCONQUERED SUN." Although we call it a "pagan feast" it actually was the accepted Roman religion at the time. It consisted of two weeks of festivities which included feasting, drinking, abstention from work, special musical presentations and the exchanging of gifts. Constantine declared it to be Christ's birthday in the year 336 A.D. because of political pressure, urged on by zealous church members.

Besides, Christ was born later in the year anyway. The bible mentions shepperds watching over their flocks which is generally only done when the ewes are pregnant, between the months of march and may.

It is so plainly obvious that this whole WOC nonsense is just that - nonsense...but it gets freeptards to watch them and their ratings stay up. After Christmas is over, they will find something else to rabble on about.
