http://www.palmbeachpost.com/pbccentral/content/local_news/epaper/2005/12/15/m1a_patriot_1215.html

A 79-year old grandmother, a disabled man, five Quakers, and about a dozen other people, met in a Lake Worth, Florida meeting house last year to discuss how to keep young people from joining the military. They are now in a database of the Pentagon's "threat" list.

Well, if those mentioned above are "threats" to the country, I suppose we're in deeper crap than we thought.

Is it okay if we start using terms like Gestapo and Nazis now? And if not, how much longer are we supposed to wait before these descriptions become appropriate?

3. Yes, it's past time for the American people to stand up.
We Quakers are really scary, promoting PEACE and social justice!

I have never participated in a rally of any kind and have not attended Meeting in years. However, the DoD visits my computer several times daily!

8. It's truly unbelievable
When I read about this for the first time a couple of days ago, I was appalled. Then I flashed back to Fahrenheit 9/11 and remembered that this is nothing new. The government has been doing this kind of police state crap since 9/11. As a UU, I know I'm on a list, too. :toast: Our kind must be stopped!

4. We have to wait until the Amish are put in camps and their horses
drafted for our artillery caisons. Then we can think about totalitarian metaphors. :sarcasm:

The tyrrany of the quakers might be that we are all

14. Oh no! Not...the QUAKERS!
I'm, uh, quaking in my boots.

Leave it to the Department of Defense to identify the pacifists as a threat. And I guess they are a threat--to the idea that war is necessary and that it has to happen always and everywhere. Which I guess is what that whole 'threat list' is about.

Yeesh,

The Plaid Adder

16. My sister married a Quaker, and I used to...
work for a Quaker college. Yep, they're "threats" alright. :sarcasm: Among their beliefs, Quakers abhor violence and advocate peaceful protests against war and war mongers.

Excuse me, but when did it become a "threat" to advocate peace???

further examples of "threat." Never underestimate the power of an idea.

19. Even the oatmeal boxes
now seem ..... well, unAmerican. I am tempted to burn every Quaker Oats box I can get my hands on. The fact that their boxes are round should have been a clue that these darned Quakers have an unhealthy agenda. I propose the Senate call them "Freedom Oats."

26. I am a Quaker...
I sent humanitarian supplies to Camp Casey. I marched against the invasion of Iraq since Day One. I am appalled on a daily basis with the reports of Iraqis being denied the peace and justice that is rightfully theirs. They never got it from Saddam - but they sure aren't getting it from the Bush administration, either.

You don't know full-scale olfactory system assault. The odor spreads fear across Eastern Iowa quite often.
