Have you ever been to Steve & Barry's University Sportswear?
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 03:53 PM by ohio_liberal
Today I went to the mall for the first time in a year. I walked in a Steve & Barry's anchor store and everything, and I mean everything, in the store is $9.98 or less. They had coats, jeans, shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, just about anything you can think of in ultra-casual clothing. Most of it was a Steve&Barry's brand but I saw some FILA and AVIREX boys clothes. Everything in the store is made in Pakistan, India, China, United Arab Emirates, and the like. And it was chock full of people. They couldn't keep stuff on the shelves. Anyone have info on their business practices and/or human rights concerns?

1. They shut down their West Lafayette, Indiana store.
Because they were selling bootleg "Boilermaker" stuff and the University Licensing Office finally got around to dealing with them.

I bought a $12 down jacket there once. Made in China. Smelled bad after I washed it.

2. I wondered about that
They don't have any professional teams just collegiate sports stuff. I wondered how they could be paying the colleges for the use of the names and still manage to keep prices that low.

3. There's one in the Manhattan Mall on 33rd and Broadway
Cheap, but smells funky, bad selection, looks shoddy. I prefer JC Penney, myself. They have generally quality stuff for decent prices.

4. Oh yeah, definitely
The inside looks like a huge Old Navy Store on crack. I noticed that all the black hoodies and t's had fuzz or something all over them.

5. A few extra bucks for quality is totally worth it.
Most of the Old Navy crap I got on sail is already shredded. The JC Penney shirts and coat and stuff I got for a bit more? Still in great condition. Just keep your eyes open for the sales and know how to shop, and you don't have to be a Walmartbot.
