Are There Any Doctors Refusing Fundies Medical Care For Any Reason?
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 10:08 AM by cryingshame
Can you imagine if any doctor of any faith besides Christian decided to NOT treat a prospective Christian patient because of that patients beliefs? Or the beliefs of the doctor themself?

I am trying to imagine any other segment of society denying medical care to someone seeking treatment and can't think of a scenario.

Can anyone come up with an instance?

Maybe the Nazis refusing Jews...

1. The Doctors Oath prohibits them from refusing to treat anyone
Period.

2. Not so
It just says to do no harm.
There are many docs who refuse to treat HIV+ patients.

4. I didn't know that about AIDS patients. There is something disturbing
about that as well.

7. Not doing harm means mandatory treatment of someone in desperate need
Sure, if its an elective surgury, they can refuse if the person is HIV.
But if its a gunshot wound and the person is dying and needs surgury NOW, no doctor can refuse, period.
It would violate the Hippocratic Oath.

6. LOL I am about to fall outta my chair at that one
Try getting treatment if you have no insurance and very limited means. $$ is the dividing line.

Now, I would be interested to hear if any pharmicicts would have their jobs protected (in states that allow them to refuse to dispense meds which violate their personal beliefs) if one refused to hand over Vigra or Prozac to a fundamentalist of ANY pursuasion. ;) Think I'm gonna start the Church of Play the Hand You're Dealt to give them cover if they wanna run an experiment.

8. Refuse to sell to Christians on Sundays or Jews on Saturdays
They're supposed to be observing The Sabbath, not out shopping.

Or convince a Jew at The Registry of Motor Vehicles to refuse to give licenses to Christians because they drive on Saturdays.

We can have fun with this!

In the meantime, pharmacists should refuse to sell cigarettes to pregnant ladies.

10. Thanks, you came up with some decent hypotheticals to help prove the point
they help, for the sake of argument.

Pretty good hypotheticals!

3. It's not a religious thing anyway...
it's a gender thing. Men discriminating against and trying to control women. There isn't a single medical procedure that men undergo or medicine they purchase that is limited or withheld. Religion is just an excuse.

5. I urge every Doctor
to prescribe birth control to every christian zealot patient that comes through the door. I know they would refuse but that refusal should lead to intense counseling.

9. Reagan asked the doctor if he voted for a Democrat
He had to ask . . . as opposed to a Dem president who would know that a doctor's first duty is to help the patient . . .

According to the Reagan mythology, it was done "as a joke" . . . riiiiiiight . . . I bet he feared for his life at the hands of someone who thought just like him . . .
