Lieberman: Now's "not a time for rookies" (Dean and Clark)
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 04:59 PM by ih8thegop
Sen. Joseph Lieberman, in an interview broadcast Sunday, questioned whether two of his chief rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination -- retired Gen. Wesley Clark and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean -- are ready to be president, saying, "it's not a time for rookies."

"These are very serious times; we're facing challenges today at home and in the world the likes of which we have not faced together in a long, long time," Lieberman, D-Connecticut, told ABC's "This Week." "It's a time for change from George Bush, but it's not a time for rookies."

Asked who the "rookies" are, he replied, "Well, Howard Dean has been a governor, Wes Clark is new to politics -- so that's two."

My comment:

Is Dean a rookie? I guess four years in the Vermont Legislature, four and a half as Lieutenant Governor, and eleven and a half as Governor makes you a rookie. That's interesting.

Clinton served twelve years as Governor of Arkansas (just a few months longer than Dean) and two as state Attorney General. I guess he, too, was a rookie when he became President. And he led America to record peace and prosperity!

4. Geez.
I get around to having at least a little respect for the guy and then he says something incredibly stupid like that.

Way to go, Joe. You just increased the appeal of those "rookies".

5. jerk
Bob Dole wasn't a rookie. Neither was Mike Dukakis, Walter Mondale, George McGovern, Hubert Humphrey, Barry Goldwater or Adlai Stevenson. Anyone want to guess what they all have in common?

6. I saw that too. I had to turn him off
Couldn't listen to another word! He is to busy patting himself on the back for supporting the war with Iraq. That was a really dumb thing to say.

9. Molly I dont care really but heh their guy isnt Lincoln's size like Kerry
Molly, John Kerry is like Abe Lincoln's height, if he were to be elected he would be the tallest with Abe, I am pretty sure Bill Bradley is 6'4 too.
But no offense to them it is rather humorous for me at least when you tell me my guy is too short when our two guys are only an inch or so apart in height, no offense.

11. Don't worry...
...next week, Kerry will be having himself shrunk by 4 inches, so he can be more like Dean.

That way, his physical being will match his policy.

25. I'd vote for a hound dog that had been dipped in the

ugly pond if she/he would just do the job of Prez without trying to loot the treasury or killing brown people so we can keep on building shitty SUV's.

17. Eh?
What the hell did your post have to do with the original poster's criticism of Lieberman's comments?

Just as with the people who call Kerry Lurch, you really need to get to a more substantive critique of the candidates. Your Dean hatred is showing. :eyes:

21. I believe Dean has bigger feet than Kerry!
And you know what that means, don't you?

Seriously, I agree with Lieberman about Clark being a political rookie. I disagree with Joe about Dean. Dean has more governing experience than Bill Clinton did when he ran for Prez in 1992.

Kerry... despite his one stupid vote on the war, has a long and distinguished liberal voting record, unlike Clark who has none.

22. His qualifications...
... are that he singularly had the balls to tell it like it is about Bush* while everyone else tiptoes around in their ballet shoes.

Any further questions?

24. Yes Dennis Kucinich was a real ballerina
:eyes: but thats right hes unelectable. Sigh sorry about that deseo I dont like being told Dean was all alone especially with people like Kucinich who have been there for us but we are told are unelectable just because they are liberal. Its no big deal but I dont like the impression that Dean was all alone. Sorry.

28. Joe, that's why you hire a cabinet. c-a-b-i-n-e-t
First, Clark's no rookie. While he's showing the inevitable sputtering of a candidate new to the race, he's done his time in public service. He's negotiated a peace treaty, led a war, and taught economics at West Point. He worked in OMB and has spent more time in the White House than you ever have. And, oh, he's been through the fire. You've never gotten through West Point, Joe. I'm sure Laura Tyson will make as good a Treasury Secretary for Clark as for you.

Second, Dean's not a rookie. While he's showing the inevitable sputtering of a candidate in his first national race, he's done his time in public service. He's balanced budgets, he's dealt with a legislature and a judiciary that's done things he wished they didn't, and he's fought progressive battles. He's spent more time governing than you ever will. And, oh, he's been through the fire. You've never gotten through medical school, Joe. I'm sure Max Cleland will make as good a Defense Secretary for Dean as for you.
