Juicy! Condi Rice is dating a (technically) married man
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 03:11 PM by caledesi
Ok, here's the story. I am trolling on FR and was reading a threads where the freepers were going absolutely ballistic about Boondocks' Aaron McGruder and the Condi comic and in doing so they OUTED Condi!

I came across this thread:

To: EveningStar

I understand that Ms. Rice has been attached to former SF 49er Gene Washington - makes you wonder why this boy Aaron McGruder doesn't include Washington in his "comic."

I also saw another post about Condi dating a "married man," but today when I tried to find it, it was pulled.

So I did some snooping and found this in the Google Groups:
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Times of India:

Football-playing beau for Condoleezza?

JUNE 01, 2003

NEW YORK: As a girl, she vowed that she would marry an American footballer, but she has ended up helping to run the country instead.

Now there is speculation that Condoleezza Rice may fulfil both ambitions after she invited a handsome sportsman not once but twice to the White House as her date.

The gossip began when Gene Washington, a former player with the San Francisco 49ers, turned up at a formal dinner for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines just over a week ago.

Noticeably, Rice, the US national security adviser, had also invited him to dine with the President of Poland, Aleksander Kwasniewski, last summer.

They attend American football matches together, where Washington can alwayssecure the best seats. Long retired from the game, he is director of operations of the National Football League (NFL) in New York. Rice, a sports fanatic, has often said she wants to be commissioner of the NFL one day.

<snip>

Washington and Rice met in the 1980s at Stanford University in California, where Rice, a professor of political science, went on to be the provost and Washington was a sports administrator. Antonia Felix, author of a biography of Rice, claims that they dated briefly.

Washington is separated from his wife, who lives in California, and has two daughters, aged 27 and 15, and a son of 13.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you believe this sh*t? Inquiring minds want to know just how long has she been dating Gene? Hmmm...met him in the 80's...he wasn't separated then.

BTW, Gene Washington is 57 yo.

Gee, I thought Condi was a "Christian?" Can we all say HYPROCRITE?!

edit: screwed up and put technically in brackets, corrected it

21. I have a few other favorite GOP homewreckers
Elizabeth Dole. Bob's squeeze while he was still married. Wifey the last to know. And Elizabeth loves to brag on her born-again status. Then, of course, the late Barbara Olsen. Another self-righteous other woman. I don't think Nancy Reagan actually qualifies as a homewrecker, but she was just "a little pregnant" when a faltering Ronnie had to marry her. Then, Newt's latest wife...the girlfriend during his second marriage. Meanwhile Bill Clinton was being barbecued by the family values who prefers adultery to lead to divorce. So they can then rail against divorce. Except, of course, Republican divorce, which is a sacrament.

4. Is Condi One Of The Holier-Than-Thou?
Repugs are generally split into pro-God fundamentalist freaks and pro-Mammon free-market freaks. Condi never struck me as a holy roller. More like spooky anti-Communist strain.

Any thoughts?

5. Hey how do you "bump" a thread...someone bump this please...
No, Condi never struck me as a Fundie freak, but I have known a lot of "Condis" in my life and have "seen this part of the show" before. Attractive woman, middle-aged, and doesn't appear to be dating. Come to find out, oh she's been dating alright for years, only problem is the guy is MARRIED. So it's a big secret. Affairs always are you know. I would LOVE to know when old Gene "separated" from his wife.

13. He could just be a beard
I still think she and Bush are unusually close. But then again, I did see her with Gene at the U.S. Open. (On TV) He is attractive. I don't begrudge her romance. If he is separated, I guess it's ok. Everybody needs somebody to Love...(I can't remember the rest of the lyrics.)

14. Exactly. The Repugs are always talking about how morally
superior they are to Dems. Even Ann-the-Man said that "Democrats have no morals."

So yeah, right now, today, I do care because these thugs should be exposed for what they are - hypocrites!

you make it look like the private acts of people are something we SHOULD be looking at.

It was wrong when they did it to Bill Clinton, it's just as wrong when we do it to Condi. I'll pass.

15. I would agree
it's of concern only to those involved.

"But since her party has set the rules..." Actually, I don't want to play by their rules. If we on the left want to win people to our side, we should set our own rules, and play by them scrupulously. In this case, it means not condemning Rice for her relationship with Washington. There is nothing factual in this thread to prove that she had any role in breaking up his marriage. Let's not throw innuendo around. For all we know, his wife got sick of him for reasons having nothing to do with Rice. But some choose to go right to the gutter at any opportunity.

I am always disappointed that the left follows where the right leads.

20. I agree also.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis lived with a still-married man for many years, and hardly a word of criticism was ever thrown at her.

Why should we condemn Condi when we didn't condemn Jackie? Besides, isn't it the responsibility of the married person to observe their own vows? Since this couple is separated we can assume their marriage contract is no longer operative in the important ways.

It'd be different if Condi went around preaching Republican family values and sexual morality, but to my knowledge she hasn't. Let's save our criticism for what's important.
