9. Around here, those drivers aren't slow, but they sure are rude.
They cut into traffic, they don't signal and, yes, it's always an SUV. When someone does something unbelievably rude in traffic, I always look and, sure enough, the SUV almost always sports a Bush sticker or some other sticker that lets you know they are a Bush supporter.

13. I've almost been run over
tons of times- I live in DC and can't afford a car and don't really need one, so I walk places or take the metro. Anyway, I've been almost hit by cars lots of times, and it's ALWAYS an SUV. The drivers just seem so fucking self-absorbed, like they're not paying attention at all. One of them also HONKED at me as I was crossing the street (I had the right of way and a sign saying YIELD to pedestrians in crosswalk)! What a bunch of rude bastards! I know it's a generalization, but when they almost kill me, I get a little upset! x(

3. There would seem to be little doubt...
People who really support the troops want them to come home, alive. People who really follow Jesus don't believe in war - especially the unprovoked, in-it-for-the-money variety. Anyone who displays one of those support-the-troops ribbons is really supporting the Bush-Cheney gang and ribbon merchants - and no one else.

These creeps in charge of our government have stolen the flag, religion, patriotism and "values" - and turned them all into negative images. I can't wait for the people who believe this trash to wake up and smell the methane. And it wouldn't hurt if someone in the mainstream news media would tell us the truth.

5. They also stole the fish
which was a perfectly nice little symbol the early Christians used to point to secret meetings because the Greek word for "fish" was an acronym for the words "Jesus Christ Son of God" or something like that. Now it has become a badge to identify "Chreeeeestians," which is how they say it around here.

It always kind of hurts me to see the little Darwin feet on the fish because to me, that assumes that people who are Christians do not believe in evolution and I absolutely celebrate the concept of evolution and think it is the miracle of the universe and makes Adam and Eve like like a kid's chemistry experiment.

8. I hadn't thought of the Darwin fish that way
I think that by putting that on one's vehicle, one is assuming a lot of things about people who have fish stickers on their cars, and, as you have said, that is not the case.

When I see a fish sticker on a car, a quote a poem from Kabir-"The fish in the water's not thirsty", and try and find tolerance in my heart for someone on a different spiritual path than my own.

6. you are so right and that is so SAD!
The media will never tell us the truth because their main job is to sell us products and to do so they have to keep us from getting too worried, too scared, too uncomfortable. Their job is to make us think we are informed, and in the meantime, keep us fairly comfortable (but not too comfy) so that we seek only whiter teeth, etc.

I gave up all tv a few months ago and getting others to shut theirs down has become my passion. It is anesthetizing!

If everyone shut off the tv I think some of those Bush supporters might just wake up.

15. "their main job is to sell us products"
Right. Products from companies run mostly by Republicans. I have pretty much shut down the TV, too, but must confess to watching a LOT of Turner Movie Classics. Other than "Countdown with Keith Olbermann", that's all there is that's worth the time.

And by the way, welcome to DU, sadinred!
:)

A #8 NASCAR sticker, a sticker of Calvin peeing on something and they still have their Bush/Cheney '04 stickers still on.

As far as a fish and yellow ribbon goes, despite what FOX News and the Bush administration say, democrats/liberals are allowed to be christians and support the troops, not the war.

See http://www.mfso.org/article.php?id=330 for a different type of bumper sticker.

12. A #3 NASCAR sticker.
Maybe with a halo. They aren't always Junior fans just cause they like daddy, but the #3 is a sure sign. :)

Also, those truck balls are usually present. http://www.bumpernuts.com/

7. Don't forget
that for some, buying the magnetic sign is the only way they have "supported the troops". I often wish I had the nerve to go up to a vehicle with STT on it and ask if they have adopted a soldier, donated to their local Guard unit, or if they perhaps volunteer at their local VA hospital. One could say this in a very enthusiastic voice, and it may get some of these people thinking.....

10. I find myself doing something childish lately
and I don't like it but I haven't figured out how to stop it. I look at other cars for their stickers, W's, license plates, magnetic ribbons, etc. and I make decisions about the person based upon their political leanings..almost as if I were in a gang looking for gang colors. I want to see if they are on "my side" or "the other side" and it kind of reminds me of high school football games or something. I would imagine I'm not the only one who does this, because I read about it here once in a while.

I'd like to say I am beyond that ... but I'm not. sigh.
