News Media Tricks

1)KILLING A STORY--just don't report it...The US News media attempted to try this tactic with the Downing Street memos...when they realized they were in trouble they then successfully employed a second tactic called...

2)SPIKING A STORY.... they were forced to report the Downing Street memos...so they reported it for one day and then let it drop.

3)SUPPLANTING A STORY.... under the guise of a more imortant UNRELATED media event...they drop coverage of the topic they do not want to discuss UNDER THE RUSE of limited airtime/printspace needed to report the supplanting story.

4)HE SAID/SHE SAID...just report two opposing viewpoints with no investigation/validation/research of whether the one side they are providing protection to is being truthful.

2. Exactly. Mischaracterizing Dems on issues is a big one, too.
With Kerry's Iraq withdrawal plan, it didn't exist at all to the media .....so

when Murtha's plan called for withdrawal they mischaracterized it as cut and run with LOTS of publicity.....so

when BushInc comes out and uses the strawman argument that Dems want to cut and run and surrender they point to the strawman argument already set up by their mediawhores.

6. Trust them to do what?
We find ourselves in a situation where we judge a story based on whether or not it conforms to our political views; the right wing does the same. If this trend continues we will find ourselves unable to even discuss with each other.

And yet i see nothing to change this tendacy.
