"I didn't do enough to stop the war to save my own son," says Michael, an athletic 60-year-old who looks much younger and exudes a Buddha-like calm. "I can't do anything now to save my own son, but I can do something to save your son."
So he has taken to the streets protesting the war wherever he can, including weekly protests in Wilmington with the Delaware grass-roots peace group Pacem in Terris and in West Chester with Chester County Peace Movement. He has other causes, too. He was arrested on Black Friday at Christiana Mall when he took part in a "Buy Nothing Day" protest.

He even announced last month he will seek the eco-friendly Green Party's nomination to run against U.S. Rep. Michael Castle, a Republican, in next year's election.
The campaign could elevate him in the public eye, but also make him more of a lightening rod. He's been one since he said after his son's death: "My son died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. This administration did this."
