What does this mean? Truly
I just read a story about soldiers, who died in Iraq they were being shipped home (after Dover) in the belly of commercial jets like freight. I wanted to link the story but feel wary because of this...

1. It's true and a solid story
I beliueve 10News refers to a local TV stations online news site. They were the reporters of the story.

3. If you link it, it's not illegal
Because you're leading people to their site. You're not supposed to cut and paste it.

4. The DOD is not telling the truth or is our Govt. about anything.
Nothing seems to be real any more if a GOP person or DOD tells us. Scary.

5. Family Upset Over Marine's Body Arriving As Freight
Excerpt:

John Holley and his wife, Stacey, were stunned when they found out the body of their only child, Matthew, who died in Iraq last month, would be arriving at Lindbergh Field as freight.

"When someone dies in combat, they need to give them due respect they deserve for (the) sacrifice they made," said John Holley.

http://www.10news.com/news/5504608/detail.html

What is sad is, this is not on MSM! It is disgraceful and so disrespectful, as these soldiers were fodder for Bush's lies, and this is the respect they get!

There is a video on that link.

9. What makes you think there is not a flag draped over the
coffin inside the crate?

I have seen that done.

16. During Vietnam
when so many more were killed the coffins were accompanied by a guard. Several of my friends who were between duty assignment volunteered for this. But then we had more respect for the dead and did not treat them as freight.

13. I can maybe understand
that once the bodies are back on CONUS, further distribution to hometowns may require the use of commercial jets which would have to put the casket in the freight compartment. But couldn't they have at least one person in uniform to accompany the casket, see to its loading and off loading, and meet the family? This would surely help, and maybe let the family know that someone cares.

14. If someone dies in a foreign country, they are usually shipped
back home in the cargo hold of commercial airplanes like freight. My question is why would the military be doing this when they have airplanes of their own to use?

22. because we don't have enough airplanes
to use for that, I would imagine.

I would say our cargo planes are pretty much 99%tasked with supply in theatre. Don't forget we have 20k troops in Afghanistan to support too, many in far flung places.

This is not an easy war on supply lines. As if one ever is, but this one is particularly bad.

15. Here are the DU rules on copyrighted material:
From the detailed rules:

Copyright issues and Bandwidth Theft

Do not post entire copyrighted articles. If you wish to reference an article, provide a brief excerpt and include a link to the original source. Generally, excerpts should not exceed three or four paragraphs.

Do not plagiarize.

Do not steal someone else's bandwidth by posting images that are hosted on another website. Democratic Underground is a high-traffic website, so posting images from other sites will cause their server load to increase dramatically, and might even cost the website owner money. If you wish to post an image from another website, you must contact the owner of the other website to get their consent.

Democratic Underground has the ability to block remote linking to images hosted on other websites. If you are a website administrator and you would like images from your website blocked, please send us an email to let us know.

Do not link or share copyrighted digital media such as mp3s or DVDs.

Wherever possible, please make an effort to link directly to the original source of an article, instead of linking to sites that have re-published someone else's content.

23. Thanks for the lesson...
in copyrighted material. I don't want to steal anybody's stories so I thought of asking before posting.
So,its OK to link the story but not copy (word for word) copyrighted material? Is that correct?

24. Yes, but you will elicit more responses by posting a tidbit of the story.
If you decide to post four paragraphs, use cut and paste to copy exactly. If the paragraphs are not contiguous, you should indicate your editing. For example:

paragraph one

paragraph two

<snip>

paragraph seven

<snip>

paragraph nine

Hope this helps.
