OMG 'analysis' of the Fox news lies study by......... the Washington Times
I ran across this little nugget while flipping around during a commercial break on ESPN.

I didn't catch the name of the host on Fox News or the "reporter" from the Washington Times. The host mentioned the study (but never showed the actual questions or numbers)and that it concluded that Fox "brainwashes" it's viewers. He then sarcastically made hand movements and pie eyes as if he were hypnotizing those watching. He then said for analysis of this study is ___________ of the Washington Times. I woke the cats up laughing at the mere thought of ever objective WT trying to bail out their fellow VRWC bretheren.

She had three main points.

First, this study asked if the respondent thought the US had found WMD in Iraq and if there were ties between Saddam and the 9/11 highjackings and then asked were the respondent where they got the majority of their news from. She said that this study assumed that WMD had NOT been found and that NO TIES existed when neither of these things have yet been established.......that is actually what she said. She then said that sure the headlines may say that but if you read into the articles....oh now they want their viewers/readers to read the see whole story.

She also asked ~"what about the tunnels? the programs that have been found? the training airplane which was not used to learn how to serve tea, the FACT that Saddam was paying rents for many of the 9/11 highjackers.....I'll let that one sink in for a minute.....and the FACT that MANY books had been written about all of these FACTS. She of course failed to name said books or who paid for and published them.

Second, she said that these studies were funded by the Rockefeller and Ford foundations which are big supporters (she said) of liberal causes, a majority of their funding activity that is.

Lastly, she pulled out the tried and true----- these studies were done by the "liberal academe" the host asked "academe?" she clarified for him "Academia", "Oh" said the host. See intelectuals and academia are home to the leading force for the liberal agenda.

Yes my head was spinning at this point.

2. Eric Shawn
eric.shawn@foxnews.com ... and yeah, it was laughable to have Trotta on to counter the study, as it only reinforced it. Especially when she went into her example mode of unsubstantiated fiction.

6. That's what got me too. She actually perpetuated the misinformation
As if to say, ~"You see the reason that Fox viewers are painted as not knowing the truth is because the DO know the truth contrary to the unfair and unbalanced architects of this study who DON'T know the truth"

The truth is what they tell their viewers is the truth.

3. drag on the WMD until everyone forgets about bush*/condi lies
there is some logic to it...most of America has forgot about shrub's "bin laden will be brought to justice - dead or alive' statements....it horrifies me that Americans just sit there and watch bin laden videos and bin laden tapes for TWO YEARS now, without asking why bush* is not held accountable....held accountable for taking OUR Nation to war in Afganistan, killing our soldiers and innocent Afgani people, AND spending BILLIONS of our tax dollars in a perpetual war in Afganistan...and everyone just sits there...

young people are NOT taking it to the streets...old people nod their heads while bush* kills them by raising Medicare payments and stealing their retirement funds...

bush* is just following the same pattern....we're looking for the weapons is the new spin...you can't conclude anything yet is the new spin...and that will go on for months/years...everyone forgot how bush* said those weapons were imminently dangerous, bush* wouldn't even give the UN inspectors TWO MORE WEEKS to avoid this nightmare war, bush*/rummy insisted that they knew WHERE the weapons where and had to go get them NOW (March 2003)...and where are they??? and why aren't Americans forcing some responsibity on bush*....instead, Americans are sacrificing their young on the alter of shrub's war, are fully accepting the "draft" of our National Guard forcing them to stay for more than a year, and Americans will still be sitting by their TV's accepting the full draft of ALL our young men by January 2004 (as Senator Max Cleland just said, there are so few troops that the draft decision must be made by January 2004)....and when Max was drafted, he came back with two less legs and one less arm, so if anyone knows about drafts, it'll be Max....

are any young people here taking it to the street and STANDING UP on October 25th in DC, and SF...everyone who posts attendance seems to be 50 years old or older....same for volunteers at ANSWER...so our YOUNG men are going like sheep to the slaughter and obviously willing to give their lives and limbs....it surprises me....

8. I agree with the lack of accountability
I disagree about the war in Afghanistan. We had to go in there and it was a just war. I understand many are opposed to that war and some to all war at all but to me that was (in the big picture) the right thing to do. Expanding it to Iraq was based on a lie and one of the dumbest things this country has ever done, ever.

Of course the plans to "put boots on the ground" had already been drawn up before the W junta siezed power and the approach they ended up taking was equivalent to smacking a hornet's nest off the tree as opposed to surrounding it and not letting the hornets spread out.

12. Nonsense. There was NOTHING just about the war in Afghanistan
Since when do you carpet bomb a country for ten months, killing many thousands of her citizens to apprehend a handful of SUSPECTED criminals. Taliban even offered twice to hand over OBL if proof were given them. Bush refused because he had no proof OBL did it and we still don't to this day.

The invasion of Afghanistan was undertaken because the Taliban was refusing to cooperate with their plans for an oil pipeline. It was planned LONG before 9-11. This was as much of a lie as the Iraq fiasco was.

A fact of life is that military means only INCREASE terrorism so the argument that the invasion was justified to fight terrorism is pure hogwash.

13. please explain how bombing the **** out of one of the
poorest countries on earth, whose people were NOT responsible for 9/11, was just? these people barely had infrastructure after all the years of fighting, were barely surviving.

what we did was make the piles of rubble that were afghanistan piles of smaller rubble, not to mention killing civilians in droves.

15. I apprently did not make my opinion clear
alQaeda was hosted by the Taliban as the governing officials in the governed part of Afghanistan. AlQaeda did attack the US on it's soil, if you want to argue that that is not true you would better spend your time screaming at the wall because I'm not buying it. I could be wrong but I am not going to entertain that conspiracy theory.

"Just" might have been the wrong word, "Right thing to do" IMHO would be more fitting.

Again my argument was not about the WHAT but the HOW and WHEN. W&Co. screwed it up by not taking this action when they should have (before 9/11 and yes I am aware that that is pre-emptive which I hate but in this case it was called for) and when they did they did it in the wrong way and then turned away from finishing the job by going into Iraq.

As far as the civilians: again it was not done in the right way but ( oh I hate having to type these words) but in a war and in everyday life innocent people die. I'm sorry but that is a fact. I hate that that is how it is but that is how it is.

I could be wrong but that is what I believe. I respect and understand what you two said but I disagree with it on the whole.

11. 80% of Fox viewers believe at least one of three misperceptions
Saddam has been linked to 9/11
WMD have been found
World opinion favored US action in Iraq.

The thing that really surprised me was thebreakdown by major network
CBS-71%
ABC-61%
NBC-55%
That is directly inverse to the networks' level (such as it is) of quesitoning W's lies.

and 60% overall is just plain scary.

17. If you look at the internals on the study, they are unbelievable.
The most amazing statistic is the one that indicates that ZERO PERCENT of Democrats who list NPR/PBS as their primary news source got any of the questions wrong. Not zero people, just zero percent.

Now FAUX apparently contends that the problem is the questions; that the questioners assume that they have the right answer. However, at least one of the questions simply asks is the US has any weapons of mass destruction. Even David Kay says "no" and yet FAUX viewers, especially Republican FAUX viewers, got the question WRONG.

9. I hadn't either this must be a given in the Repube universe
These "books" she mentioned must have been in the "Clinton Chronicles" vein, you know the ones that start with the premise that 47 murders are attributal to the Clintons and go from there.

When they start with "Look everyone knows......." the BS meter maxes out.
