What would happen if Rush, Hannity or O'Reilly ran for public office?
At the federal level. I think that Florida is so fucked up that they would elect somebody like Limbaugh for at least Congressman. But really, would these asshats have a chance? If so, where would they have to run?

12. Chris Matthews' younger brother is running on the Republican ticket in
Penn.

Matthews allowed his brother to announce his run on Hardball 2 nights ago.

17. We'll see how that turns out.
It depends on where he's running, and what for. Matthews isn't as unabashedly Republican as the clowns in the OP, though. At least he tries to aim for a semblance of impartiality.

23. Sorry, I can't agree with ANY impartiality on Chris Matthews' part.
He is a died in the wool hardcore conservative who is terrified to allow any liberal to say more than three words before cutting them off.

2. Their ability to win an election ...
... would depend on one thing: Have they been pro-Diebold, or anti-Diebold on their respective shows?

3. Depends if Diebold was in the mix
I doubt even Florida would vote for an indicted drug addict.

5. I don't know, but at least it would get them off their shows for a while!
I think Fed election law would view them having their own show as "in kind money" and they would be forced to give up their shows for the campaign period.

That would almost be worth it!

8. Sadly Limbaugh
could win in Missouri. His home state and mine. Hanniy and Olielly would get crushed in my opinion.

9. It would be the death of them politically and proffessionally
Those asswipes have waaaaaay to many skeletons in the closet to withstand that kind of scrutiny. We toss things around here like Limpballs arrest for homosexual pandering, but not many people pick that up and run with it, we're a small player here at DU in the larger scheme of things. However, if Rushbo ran for office, his homosexual pandering, drug use, anal cyst, and every other warped, twisted and illegal activity he engaged in would be front page news within twenty four hours of his announcing. Same with Hannity and O'Reilly. And not only would such scrutiny sink their political campaign, such an outpouring of their filth for all to scrutinize would also damage their proffessional reputation also, and probably sink their career. After all, what self righteous, uptight and terminally moral Christian conservative is going to listen to, or hire, somebody after finding out their a drug addled, draft dodging, bigoted homosexual?

Besides, these guys wouldn't subject themselves to such madness for one simple reason, they are much better at dishing out the abuse than taking it.

15. It comes as part of the standard DU avatar package
Go under options, then under edit your profile, and avatars are third from the top. Click on the "following images" link and scroll down until you find the Chief's logo. Nice to see another Chief's fan here! They're going to kick Dallas' ass this weekend.

10. I doubt if they would live past the primaries.
They would be in open spaces in front of lots of angry people for many months. Limbaugh's ex-drug dealing maid would even have a crack at him... I imagine she and her whole family more than just hate Rush Limpballs.

16. Why? Lose A Cushy Gig?
One of the few laws that still applies is broadcasters can't employ office seekers without offering equal time to the opponent. In Rushbo's case that would mean giving up his cushy multi-million dollar with Cheap Channel that all but enables him to live is his own little world. Why would anyone want to leave. Especially when there's a Prosecutor sniffing at your door.

Hannity maybe could move to Utah or Indiana...there he'd have a future...or at least a semi-lucrative auto dealership. He'd stand little chance in any statewide or even regional New York election. And again...why? Sean gets to play big TV star that enables him to make millions not only on his TV and radio deals but all the appearances and other promotional goodies. If you notice, each year he "releases" (escapes is a better word) a new "book" that means a tour...that not only means extra bucks in book sales, but money from affiliates who "host" his parties. Why give up being the big fish in the small beltway?

Also, radio-types and TV types have had poor results in trying to cash in their airwave fame for a political office. Look at Pat Buchanan as a good example.

18. They would get at least 25% of the vote for sure.

That's about how many hardcore RWers usually vote righty in any survey or election. Hitler could run for prez with Ted Bundy as his running mate and they would be guaranteed at least 25% of the vote if they ran under the rethug banner.

on air.

Limbaugh at least does far more damage on the air.

27. Depends for what where.
They could run for god in Oklahoma and probably get past the primaries. The prob for them is they are in it for the money, and its too much work to steal it and even then the return is less than they get for 'sleep number bed' sponsorship. hell, it took the repug from SD ten years to get a million bucks in stuff. These assholes want cold cash, and they don't care whose mother turns hooker to get it.
