LTTE re: Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas brouhaha....
Would welcome constructive criticism from fellow DUers before emailing to my local "news" paper which just did a feature article on the HH vc MC issue:

I have one holiday wish: that the shrill, right-wing reactionaries carping about the phrase “happy holidays” would go back to sleep and let visions of sugarplums dance through their heads, leaving the rest of us in peace to use whatever season’s greeting we see fit.

Whether one uses “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Holidays,” or even “Bah Humbug,” is a matter of personal choice, which I suppose is the reason so many conservatives are rankled. People have been using “Happy Holidays” for decades. I suspect the only reason this is such a hot-button issue this season is the fact that one of the far-right’s carnival barkers, Fox News personality John Gibson, has penned a predictably intransigent book about “rescuing” Christmas from the heathen, secular, liberal masses.

I find it impossible to take the yuletide gnashing of teeth and accusations of religious persecution by conservative right too terribly seriously when I’m able to drive past Kalamazoo Christian High School and see their “Holiday Dance” heralded on the marquee.
If the conservative, religious minions of the Republican party truly want to “put the meaning back in Christmas,” I suggest they start with the vast corporate machine they venerate, and prevail upon it to end the manic, mass commercialism that is thrust upon us months before December 25.

Until then, I’ll be busy addressing and stamping my HOLIDAY cards.

1. Don't these morans know that
Happy Holiday means Happy HOLY-Day

Isn't that just as meaningful as Merry Christmas

And come to think of it, no self respecting protestant evangelical should be using the term ChristMAS at all - !!!!:sarcasm:

3. But librulz hate Jesus
I think it's a great letter, does a good job calling them on their hypocrisy. But there's too many people out there brainwashed beyond the point of no return. Still, I say send it. The more voices out there the better.
