Sorry, no link to the letters, but it is in the Manchester (CT) Journal Inquirer. It's a local paper for me, but they've long been pretty RW... They said it will be published this week. Thanks to Will Pitt's recent articles in Truthout for the info on Scott Ritter & Brad Spencer:
Here is my letter, pre-editing:
It is very sad for me to see Democrat Joe Lieberman parroting long-debunked Republican talking points on Iraq.
Despite the claims of the White House, and their endless supply of factless surrogates like Lieberman, everybody did not think Saddam had WMD before the invasion. Mohammed ElBaradei, Nobel Prize winner and head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, was on record before the war as saying that Iraq did not have WMD.
Another who thought otherwise was Scott Ritter, the chief UN weapons inspector in Iraq for seven years in the 1990s. In 2002, he said that 90-95% of Iraq’s WMDs were verifiably destroyed, and that anything left would have long deteriorated into harmless sludge.
Remember those terrifying mobile WMD labs that Colin Powell scared America with in his now disgraced UN presentation? WMD expert Brad Spencer, PhD, did not mince words about Powell's presentation, “It's garbage. It's a lie. It is the most easily proved of all the lies.”
Not to mention that in 2001, both current Secretary of State Rice and former Secretary Powell were on record as saying that Saddam was contained and not a threat.
Senator, if you are going to continue to support this illegal and immoral war that has made our country much less safe, at least get your facts straight.
