Bush pet McCain Rove-ly attacks Murtha's mind and age

RJ Eskow

John McCain Meets EE Cummings

When I read John McCain's comments about Rep. Murtha this line from e. e. cummings popped into my mind: "How do you like your blue-eyed boy now, Mr. Death?" In his role as war salesman McCain, the allegedly "different kind of politician" who's been a longtime darling of reporters and liberals, resorted to the lowest of cheap shots - tactics very similar to those Karl Rove used against him and his family in the 2000 primary.

The 69-year-old McCain insinuated that 73-year-old Murtha is unintelligent (if not downright stupid), uninformed, and losing judgement because of advancing age. Specifically, McCain said of Murtha that "he's never been a big thinker," that "as we get older we get more sentimental," and that "he's been very, very affected by the funeral and the families." As ThinkProgress points out (link via Raw Story):

For three decades, U.S. presidents of both parties have turned to Murtha for advice on our nation’s most sensitive national security issues. For instance, he “worked closely with President George H.W. Bush” in the lead-up to the first Iraq war. Murtha also authored a highly-praised book that one reviewer described “an analytical history of defense and foreign affairs matters that Murtha has been involved in from the Vietnam War through Sept. 11.”

Pretty good for someone who’s “never been a big thinker.”

2. i guess that rules out a presidential bid by mccain in 08
he'd turn 73 in office and wouldn't be able to adequately preform his duties due to advanced age

Unlike Bush, who could not care less.

4. Yet many Democrats still think McCain is "a good guy"
My brother included. It bugs the crap out of me that otherwise smart people can't see that McCain is just as bad as the rest of them.

18. In fact he's probably worse
People know that Bush is partisan but McCain pretends to be bipartisan for his political career and befriend people like Kerry for his credibility. He's worse than these people.

5. McCain has no pride
what a toadying piece of shit he is...after the things Bush said about him in the South Carolina primary...to be kissing Bush's ass is way over the line on loss of manhood.

23. 180... I don;t know about you, but it is hard
for me to just hate people like McCain and oh, Stockdale... for that matter Cunningham

these people were the heros of our times.

What to make of this?

There is something wrong with him, for sure.

24. I do not hate
Removed that depressing word long ago.

Cunningham has disgraced every fighter pilot there ever was.

McCain is a mystery to me. I believe he suffered in Vietnam and conducted himself well and now to embrace the failed pilot/man/boy in the white house is beyond my understanding.

25. How I long to remove that word
But these last 5 years have cemented it deeply in me.

I agree. I would love to just sit and talk with him. Maybe he does not do that with real people anymore. That would lead you to suck up to idiots like **.

7. I'd give anything to see Murtha stride into the Senate Chambers
and just go punch McCain in the face. I'd hit the max donation for his next re-election bid.

19. Yeah, sometimes I yearn
for the Wild West when things could be settled at "High Noon".

Murtha would take him down in a New York second..

Just on guts alone.

What an insult.

Thank God that McCain will be too old to run for President in 2008.

9. I think that McCain
has some serious head problems. Rep Murtha is telling the truth about this war. They will say and do anything to slam anyone that do not agree with them. Shame on Asshat McCain for sure a low ass comment. A few years ago I thought that McCain was an honest and caring man. I have lost all respect for him.

10. Murtha: Heroic Veteran, visited Veterans' hospitals every week for years.
He is our true American Hero, soldier, and public servant. We have a democracy that requires open and forthright government representatives, and NOTHING is more important than sharing studied opinions, based on expertise and representatives' special access to restricted information after filtering, with the electorate.
Congressman Murtha has the confidence and the trust of senior military officials, and he has chosen to share their sentiments in a cautios manner. We may be on the verge of a collapse of our military morale in Iraq, over 100,000 deaths must have occured there, and mostly innocent victims of the U.S. war machine, and how can a man with a conscience continue to support a war by and for war profiteers!
Congressman Murtha may be monitoring the pulse of the troops more closely than any other congressman, surely Lieberman or McCain don't get it. imo

in 2008...GOES ON MY IGNORE LIST, which is ZERO right now. What a hateful, childish thing to say considering the same tactics were used on him. :grr: That SOB needs to be SKEWERED by Kerry (his supposed friend) and SKEWERED NOW!

15. I have to believe Rove wants to destroy McCain - so he can work
with Jeb next time around.

Otherwise Rove has been promised to McCain. There is no excuse for an adult (as McCain has proven himself to be in the 1990s) would start acting like an attack dog.

16. This is the one statement of
mccain's that I'm going to bring up anytime someone says .."mccain is not so bad".

And mccain is a "big thinker"? I don't think so..I have yet to see any evidence.

Before, I always mentioned what mccain had to say about Barbra Streisand when he was on SNL..I guess he tried to sing badly and said to the effect ..he would leave the singing to her and she should leave the politics to him and his ilk.

EXCUSE ME!..They work for us..anyone has right to question those we vote into office or they're fucking policies.
