Barbour's relatives secured no-bid contracts awarded in Katrina's wake
Haley Barbour's relatives secured some of those no-bid contracts awarded in Katrina's wake in the Gulf Coast. A whole lotta contracts.
...$6.4 million in contracts received by her company, Alcatec L.L.C., have also elicited questions about possible favoritism....According to a review of federal contracts awarded since Hurricane Katrina, her company ranks seventh in total contracts out of 88 Mississippi-based concerns that have received deals worth $100,000 or more.
The most valuable of these contracts was awarded in September and October when the government was handing out candy-coated no-bid contracts to its pals.

Both Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and his niece-in-law say that their family relationship, Gov. Barbour's former RNC chairmanship, and their connections to the Administration's GOP hierarchy had nothing to do with her shower contracts whatsoever -- especially those plum, no-bid ones. (Wonder if Harriet vetted the contracts for the WH?) Nope, no cronyism here.

3. This Turd Was Just Testifying...Begging For Money
Of course he's not blaming his beloved booooshie boy...it's "Congress' fault"...they haven't greased the skids quick enough for the contractors and outsources to plunder fast enough.

This isn't the first time Barbour's name has popped up in some type of influence peddling. IIRC, he had some charges thrown at him while he was at the RNC. Here's hoping Hurricane Abramoff sucks up this fat fuck.

5. Begging for money to build the infrastructure inland
so folks can move off the coastline and the corporations (condo, casino, hotel developers) can buy the property and so that he can let his buddies and his relatives have the bids to construct those new infrastructure.

Damn the citizens, I didn't hear word one from him about the citizens! Bastard :argh:

7. Gotta Clear The Land For Those Land-Based Casinos
I was listening about specific areas in need. I'm not hearing anything about assisting small and local businesses to rebuild...this is just another outsourcing project and Barbour's there to get the grease. Shameful.

Merh...is there things we can do to help or find out more of what's really going on along the Gulf Coast? NOLA is bad, but seems like the situation in Port St. Louis and that area is still dire.

Cheers...

the gubbmint is doing to for Mississippi... Too bad "it's all just about the money" and not about actually helping the people who lost it all..:(

6.4 million + 8,800,000. (88 x 100K contracts) divided between the people who lost all they had, would have gone a long way toward making them whole again..

Instead , the lion's share is going into the bank accounts of already-rich people who will "trickle a little down to" the undocumented workers who have been imported to do the actual work.. And the outrage is that lots of these workers are not even being paid. They come in, do the work and then get ripped off. if they complain they are threatened with deportation and jail.
