To quote Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along"????
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 05:48 PM by CatWoman
what is up with all the candidate bashing???

I think it's tearing us all apart.

And for what???? To prove that your candidate is better than mine, or his, or hers?????????

1. Yes, lets.
I don't agree with all. I don't like all the candidates. I sometimes express my disagreement with what a poster has to say. I sometimes say why I prefer one candidate over another. But...shouldn't disagreement be a stepping-off place for discussion, debate, thinking, and learning? Does it have to be about fighting?

We can disagree with respect. Without attack or ridicule.

It would raise us a level above the opposition.

3. I totally agree, but unfortunately
I don't think anyone going to listen to you. Some people here don't like to do anything except bash the shit out of candidates. Just to set this straight: I love all of our candidates and in the general election I will vote for whomever wins the nomination.

5. Agreed...
While I have my candidate, I am open to others views. But to just dig in ones heels and not listen to others views, is pretty well absurd.

All of these candidates have good and bad points. Personally, I would be for the candidate that takes the best of the ideas, and molds them into a platform that will attract the most voters. But I don't see that happening in the immediater future.

In all honesty, I would like to see the field whittled down a bit, but I will not deny anyone the right to run. Guess I just have to wait for some of the primaries to get the field down.

In any case, it NEVER pays to keep your mind closed to other ideas; it makes us no better thatn the Re:puke:.

Civil discourse is the best way we can come to terms...And I would add, once there is a candidate chosen, unless we feel vehemently against that individual, and refuse to vote for him/her, we should ALL come together in support of that individual. Solidarity is the ONLY way we will win.

:hi:

I agree, this has become a feast of blood over the candidates.

Funny, out of the whole slew, I think Carol Mosely-Braun makes the most sense, bu, 2 strikes; 1 female, 2 black. It is a shame we haven't gotten beyond that yet. She's nobody's fool.

Let's hope, this will poass soon, and we can all get behind whomever the Candidate is at the end. We've got to get this slug out of office!

6. The bashing
Sometimes I wonder who the bashers are:

* Passionate zealots?
* Immature kids who are spraying this and other forums with graffiti?
* Bitter or emotionally damaged people who are incapable of interacting in any reasonable fashion with others?
* Political operatives?

One sure sign that the intention is to smear and not to discuss is when a thread is started with a contentious topic and the original poster doesn't hang around for the debate.

7. I concur...
... it seems we ought to be a lot less vitriolic when discussing our candidate versus the others or when criticizing the Dem party for not doing a good job, not being liberal enough, or whatever. I believe many of our problems stem from the Republican mastery of impression management through the media and other modes of communication.

10. I like all the candidates
some a little better than the other, they all have their good points. But the main point is that each one wants to take junior's place and that's good enough for me.

Lot of freepers are throwing gas onto some of these debates and I can't figure out why some of the DUer's are buying into it!

13. I tried last night, as have others....
The downside of this is that not only do we provide aid and comfort to our enemies, but that everyone here is so concerned about the country's direction, so informed, and so passionate, that attacking another DUer's candidate seems almost like a personal attack (which the forum rules do not allow). We have enough rules, I know, but I wish there was a way to relegate down-and-dirty infighting to somewhere outside GD, without losing threads based on sources and opinions about candidates that are pro, con and neutral, with reasonable discussion.

And had total disregard for human life? I'm not taking advice from him, thanks. Granted, the police were wrong to beat the shit out of him, but he did attack one of them.

22. King was stopped by ONE California Highway Patrol car. They called
LAPD because he wasn't responding to the officer's commands (a man and a woman). There were two other males in the car with King.

Sgt. Stacey Koontz was the officer in charge of the LAPD who arrived at the scene. He failed to instruct them to use the "swarm technique" on King and instead, watched while they repeatedly pommelled him with their batons as he lay on the street. This outraged even Poppy Bush.

The rest is history.

attempting to give the death penalty for speeding..a bit excessive even for the "law and order" types.

he attacked a police officer and endangered the lives of civilians in that car chase. Perhaps we should leave it up to the police, and give them more discretion to determine what is and is not excessive force.

35. I think you don't have your facts straight..he didn't attack an officer
And giving police officers more discretion on who to beat up is a very bad idea...perhaps you should google the amount LA has paid out on brutality cases.

I don't favor giving adrenaline addled males more discretion on what is excessive and what is not.

I believe there should always be guidelines defining what is excessive so that police can operate in the security of those guidelines knowing that unless they substantially violate them, they are in the clear. That leads to fewer questions and claims of abuses.

A bunch of people here are prematurely overinvested in one or the other candidate. The primary campaign season began a few months early this time around- the Dean people kicked off way early- and you're seeing some of what happens when there aren't finicky voters out there keeping the arguments honest: the energy gets turned on each other and the noise drowns out the signal.

You can also see that Dean-Kerry and Dean-Clark arguments are vicious but Kerry-Clark arguments are quiet or nonexistent.

I figure around Xmas things will quiet down a great deal. I don't understand why the arguing continues around here anyway- I doubt any side is going to make a significant number of converts until candidates begin to drop out, which apparently won't be until early in the new year.

24. It Is Kind of Odd
I read some of them, because they often do contain a fact or two, but nothing has changed who my pet candidate is and who my other favorites are. What I find frustrating is that the two candidates I most favor are often featured in some of the most content-free flamefests!

In the spirit of the original post and to be a complete pain in the ass, I will say that the 'silver lining' in the ugliest flamefests gives a nice preview for what the eventual nominee will face from DicklessWonder* and Co. I don't think we're doing their homework for them - try as we might, we just can't equal the slime they ooze.

I really want to know what everyone thinks and be able to listen and judge for myself instead of having to listen to all the nastiness. Present the facts and go on. It becomes like a religious fanatic forum sometimes :(
