WASHINGTON (AP) -- Six weeks after White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted in the CIA leak case, special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was back at work Wednesday before another grand jury in the drawn-out federal probe.

Fitzgerald, accompanied by several deputies seen carrying files as they walked into the grand jury area of the courthouse, made no comment to reporters about the nature of his visit.

4. maybe the other 21 indictments?
sorry for the sarcasm... I'm willing to wait and see, but I have to say that my instinct lately is that a lot of the hype last month was overblown. I hope I'm wrong but I don't have the feeling that the investigation expanded to look into all the other things like WHIG, etc. I think he's focused on the Plame leak only and the only question is whether he's going to indict Rove or not. Although i had my hopes up before when everyone was talking about 22 indictments, I've toned down my hope. I now just would like that one more - Rove - and then I'll be happy. As far as today goes, maybe he has some evidence to show the GJ. Maybe he's going to ask for an indictment. Who knows?!

7. Not a lawyer, but I think he's somewhat restricted to Plame
IIRC, although he did get the investigation 'broadened' it still is focused from the standing of the Plame outing.

A special prosecutor is different than an independant whatever as Ken Starr was. Starr could endlessly "look" into anything and everything related or unrelated until he could find something to pin on Clinton.

8. I don't know about that, check this out.
letter from John Dean to Fitzgerald:

November 18, 2005

The Honorable Patrick J. Fitzgerald
Special Counsel
Bond Federal Building
1400 New York Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20530

Dear Special Counsel Fitzgerald:

Excuse my being so presumptuous as to send you this open letter, but the latest revelation of the testimony, before the grand jury, by Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward has raised some fundamental questions for me.

In your post as Special Counsel, you now have nothing less than authority of the Attorney General of the United States, for purposes of the investigation and prosecution of "the alleged unauthorized disclosure of a CIA employee's identity." (The employee, of course, is Valerie Plame Wilson, a CIA employee with classified status, and the wife of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson.) On December 30, 2003, you received a letter from the Deputy Attorney General regarding your powers. On February 6, 2004 you received a letter of further clarification, stating without reservation, that in this matter your powers are "plenary." In effect, then, you act with the power of the Attorney General of the United States.

In light of your broad powers, the limits and narrow focus of your investigation are surprising. On October 28 of this year, your office released a press statement in which you stated that "A major focus of the grand jury investigation was to determine which government officials had disclosed to the media prior to July 14, 2003, information concerning Valerie Wilson's CIA affiliation, and the nature, timing, extent, and purpose of such disclosures, as well as whether any official made such a disclosure knowing that Valerie Wilson's employment by the CIA was classified information."

10. Thanks for the additional info
Dunno...like I said, I'm not a lawyer. Maybe it's Fitzgerald's view to narrow the focus is the best way to get conviction.

I'm still not ready to write off his investigation and indictment abilities. Our GOP Governor's trial is currently in process. It was Fitzgerald who was finally able to bring charges to get him there. It was a loooonnnngggg process, and frankly I didn't have much faith for it to happen. But it did!

If there's anyone who can find the truth about the crime(s) and bring charges, it's Fitzgerald. I'm resigned that we may not get a full and complete laundry list of charges, but if even one charge puts these bastards in jail and gets them out of politics...I'm 110% behind it. :)
