Terminator Faces GOP Revolt & Mel Gibson?
December 07, 2005
Schwarzenegger Faces GOP Revolt
With "segments" of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) "political base rising in revolt, directors of the California Republican Party have demanded a private meeting with the governor to complain about the hiring of a Democratic operative as his chief of staff," the Los Angeles Times reports.

Republican operatives say "grass-roots volunteers were so disturbed by the appointment that they were threatening to abandon Schwarzenegger during his reelection bid next year. Others said Schwarzenegger was risking a nasty fight that could cause the party to rescind its endorsement of him during February's convention in San Jose."

Most interesting development: "There is even a movement to draft Mel Gibson, the actor and director, to run against Schwarzenegger in the Republican primary next year -- in part because the success of Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ, could help his chances among religious conservatives."

EDIT: If the Republicans don't like Ahhnold, maybe they can petition for a recall election...

6. sure, he's a republican
and when you're a republican, those silly impediments to power are meaningless.

he's a citizen the same way cheney is a resident of wyoming instead of texas.

8. He was born near Peekskill, NY and lived here until he was 12.
Then his father moved the whole family to Australia.

15. Thanks for the clarification
Obviously, I don't spent a lot of time following Mel Gibson's life story.
B-)

when LIBERAL actors dare to speak, the banana republicans say it's ridiculous for actors to venture political opinions....

9. What worries me is that the actors they pick now
are all action movie stars which doesn't really make them all that bright to begin with. Could you imagine how lukewarm they'd be if fellow Republican Kelsey Grammar ran? They'd play him off as an elitist and shun him in the primaries. It seems to me that the right wingers want a mental midget in all of their candidates to appease their insecure fears of having a leader who seems to talk down to them. And since to me it seems 99% of Right Wingers are so uneducated on the issues anyways, I guess it makes sense to elect morons.

10. Good point, MessiahRp

You don't see the repugs talking about running John Malkovitch, or Ben Stien either.

18. All they want is a talking head
They just want someone who is the talking head to appeal to people and they do the agenda. Seems like Arnie wanted to do things his way and they're not liking it.

11. But but Hollywood people should just stay quiet because only politicians
know anything about politics. Isn't that what the wingers keep hammering away at against Barbara Streisand and Martin Sheen and Robert Redford and .......

17. Gibson said Bush's war was wrong. This'll never happen.
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 03:31 PM by Touchdown
He said it during an interview with Barbara Walters last year when his snuff film was released.

Besides, he can't be governor. He's busy making his next movie...
