Lee Hamilton: maybe I misunderstood or maybe he misspoke
I was just channel-surfing and came across the Neil Cavuto show and I saw Lee Hamilton, so I paused for a second, because I used to respect the man. They were talking about terrorism and national security, etcetera. I swear I thought I heard Hamilton say the following "We still live in a free country, unfortunately."

What's up with that? Are my ears playing tricks on me? I admit it's late...

(By the way, DU spell check suggests "Cavity" for Cavuto.)

2. Would that be the Lee Hamilton what allowed Reagan and Bush to
escape prosecution for Iran-Contra?

Mr Lee " for the good of the country" Hamilton who didn't pursue a case against Reagan and Bush - even though the evidence was there?

Lee Hamilton of the 911 Commission?

This Lee Hamilton?

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised at what came out of his mouth.

3. thanks for that
I didn't know about all that stuff, thanks for it.

Didn't he used to seem like a decent guy? Sometime in the distant past or something?

Wait... I just woke up about four years ago. Sorry.

Thanks Solly.

5. I just can't forgive Iran-Contra. I won't forgive it.
Doing then what should have been done - impeachment and prison time - might have saved us from Shrub now.

I was outraged by the wrist slapping then and I see the return of the Iran-Contra crowd into political office as proof that my outrage was well placed.

6. you are absolutely right
And maybe the undeniable tide of scandal will doom them forever. If there is any justice, it will. But knowing the media it won't. :(

7. Strange phrasing.
I stumbled upon that too. He said unfortunately Amerika is an open society so that we cannot have more stringent security than the Constitution allows. I don't really think he meant that Amerika should be a total Police State. At least, I hope he did not mean that!

8. I'm kind of partial to an "open society"
I want liberty over security if security costs me my liberty.

For years now, I've been getting less liberty, more restrictive and intrusive laws - but oddly enough, less security. Go figure.
