I hope whatever repukes approve these exclusions are followed for a while and approached the next time THEY step foot inside any kind of establishment that they are trying to stomp out in this aid bill...next time they meet their lobbyists at a local golf course or country club, perhaps? And where the fuck was their concern for
"the poor, vulnerable and elderly" in the days after Katrina/Rita??

House Republicans decided Tuesday to stop casinos, massage parlors and liquor stores from cashing in on tax breaks for businesses in Gulf Coast communities ravaged by hurricanes.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., lead the movement to carve those businesses out of any special tax incentives intended to lure jobs and commerce back to the region.

"Federal tax dollars need to be focused on those who truly need the government's help, like the poor, vulnerable and elderly," Wolf said in a statement on the House floor.

A House bill, scheduled for debate on Wednesday, fulfills the order for a special investment zone. It prohibits country clubs, casinos, hot tub facilities, liquor stores, massage parlors, private or commercial golf courses, racetracks and tanning parlors from using tax incentives special to the Gulf Coast.

1. You ever been to a casino?
Elderly like them, from what I've seen.

"Massage parlors"? What exactly does that mean?
Is that a house of prostitution or a place where licensed massage therapists do massage therapy? Ugh.

2. I would guess thet want them gone so the void can be filled
with THEIR donors.... a lot of graft and laundered $$$ could be moved through those type of establishments w/ the RIGHT owners.

4. Does anyone else have the impression that the repukelicans
are playing around with the Gulf Coast and NO as if they are building their own private lego land?

It seems to me that they are capitalizing on an opportunity to build their own little version of utopia. No evil businesses, no brown skined people.

The French Market is the first area that is up and running and open for business. That will become their own private little playland. They will surround it with gated communities where they can select just who gets to live where.

Maybe I am reaching here, but they sure seem to have some strange ideas about rebuilding and they sure are taking their own damn sweet time getting it done.

3. But the casinos are the biggest industry on the Gulf Coast, aren't they?
Or one of the biggest?

Why in the world would they not want to help them rebuild? How many of those residents are (were) employed in the casinos?
