Feeding tubes get pulled quite often
we are told, when it is clear that the patient is beyond recover.

So why, when all the news sources reported about the horror story of that little girl who was beaten senseless by her step dad - do they have to add "like Terri Schiavo?" Certainly this was how Blitzer started his report at 5:00 (EST).

The story was that the dad is suing to prevent the removal of the tube so that he would not be charged with murder. Saying "like Terri Schiavo" can send a message that her husband was murdering her, too.

I hope that Mr. Schiavo sues Blitzer and CNN.

3. Question.
I thought it was also about disconnecting her from her ventilator as well. There are other cases that dealt with that issue IIRC. That is a different deal, a much quicker response usually than the feeding tube removal. Just wondering since I have not kept up with this one.

4. Neither have I. This is just too sad story
and I am sure googling it you can find more info. Certainly was also on the CBS news. But I was listening to CNN this afternoon and Blitzer was already talking about it before the hour and then, for the official news segment, started by "like Terri Schiavo" and I could not believe my ears.

CBS News, also made reference to Schiavo, but at least it was in the body of the story, not the headline, the way Blitzer likes to hector.

5. and in the case of a Texas infant, when the family can't afford the
health care, and, it just happens, isn't white . . . done under a state law enacted by the "culture of life" hero, Governor George W. Bush . . .
