100. I'm a Murkin living in Canada so I can't vote.
But it's Parkdale-High Park. The Cons run a distant 3rd here.

Be sure to tell would-be Liberal voters not to split the vote in ridings where the NDP is in a dogfight with the Tories, and the Liberals are in 3rd place. There are a number of them.

20. Your post does not say anything about Hillary.
However, there are many DLC shills on board who are slamming Pelosi, Murtha, and those who support the Murtha plan for withdrawal as soon as practical from Iraq based on his significant observations and conversations with the "boots on the ground" troops and commanders in Iraq. If only meant attacks on Hillary perhaps you should've specified that in your post. :eyes:

be doing it. Wait, they are doing it.

Not like it got them anywhere, did it? Just three branches of the government. Look how many we still have! What, there are only three branches?

Maybe there is something to this support each other thing after all!

84. Yeah, and they're also heading off to jail one right after another
If you never examine what your organization is doing and apply criticism where due, then you'll end up with an organization like the pukes and your members will head off to jail one right after another because no one ever criticizes as that would be unsupportive of their efforts, after all.

Seig Heil!

Fortunately for us, there is no lock step in the Dem party because we believe our philosophies are only purified and improved in the crucible of debate. It's what makes us the big tent. My apologies if I'm being a bit didactic, but your post called for such a response.

And you're forgetting the fact that they stole one of those branches of government you're refering to from us, twice, another feat for which some of them should be frogmarching to jail.

87. You do have a good point, blind support can be bad.
But I never said support has to be blind. Sometimes the best way to support some one is to tell them the truth.

As far as the Republicans, I think they know the character of the people they are supporting. They just don't care.

Personally I think any of the leading Democrats deserve our support.

Like several people said, do your fighting in the primaries, unit in the general election.

23. I feel your pain.....
Quantity...not quality.... has become the mainstay of forums nation wide....and the influx of newbies has fueled the aggravation....clearly evidence of frustration among our youth.

This forum has an extremely high quantity of posts....
Combine that with the general degradation of forums of this type and you have a recipe for a decreased inability to form a concensus of opinion....or what can be generally catagorized as "ranting".

The construction of the "research forum" was a great idea...but the methodology for how to make it worked needs to be interatively improved. I recommend an approach where "matchmaking" can be made between those that really have shared beliefs and who don't simply want to rant but combine in team projects. Even 10 or 12 incentivized team members could probably exceed anything which has been previously posted on such sites as this.

Just think for a moment at a broad level.
Here we are in the new millenium and we are still in the dark ages regarding how to use the internet and the sharing of information to advance our understanding of the world and our environment. Here's some quick suggestions....

1. Find a way to champion and bring forth real...credible...information...and raise the level of information among those who participate.
2. Form specific identifiable and verifiable (testable) methodologies for how to form a consensus of opionion....based somehow on better group participation....and using a quality feedback loop to the update facts, relevant information and the overall consensus of information.

Sadly...and this is no fault of this forum per se....
but this type of degradation in online forums only feeds into the overall demonization and destruction of the democratic party.

I love debate and discussion and think it's great when someone has a different opinion and you can share ideas, even if it gets a little heated.

I'm so so so sick of personal attacks with no substance or even reference to the point at hand. Maybe DU should come up with new rules about that.

I love a good debate but sometimes I wonder if I'm in the right location.

I thought Democrats were all on the same team, especially on Big Issues.

That would still be OK with me if the personal put downs were not so full of hate/anger.

Are there any rules for debate that are followed?

I am not aware of any. It is only when I see the word LOCK or DELETE that I think that something someone said may have pushed a magic button, but I can't learn from the experience of the thread cause I have no clue why the thread went bye bye

But since I can only guess at the reason, I am left feeling

or better yet, If you like the party with no dissent marching in lockstep, try the RNC.

I, however, will continue to call a spade a spade.

Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 09:47 PM by izzybeans
I'm for honest criticism, but for goodness sakes, condemnation of a reasonable politician is just reactionary drivil. Condemnation should be reserved for the ideologically pure opponent who you disagree with on every issue.

Clinton for banning flag burning makes me want to scream, as does her war stance, but i agree with her on many other points.

Our personal relationships with our life partners should be so lucky. I wish I only disagreed with my wife on that much. But then again that's what make personal involvement fun.

54. You'd have to define "rip" and "bash" for me.
Legitimate criticism of, say, voting against civil liberties or for illegal wars doesn't fit that definition.

78. It's easy to use.
"What? You don't like that _________ (D) wants us to keep killing Iraqis? Why are you BASHING GOOD DEMS????"

It's similar to the old 'criticize Israeli policy/get called an anti-Semite' bullshit. A cop-out to avoid actually discussing the issues.

Cowardice, in other words.

I'd like to see one too. There's constructive criticism, which is ok, and there's BASHING, which is frustrating, especially when you see the EXACT same words used over and over, about the same person. I get the point the first time, it serves no useful purpose, and contrary to some opinions, I think we DO eat our own here far too much.

66. For some there is no room for error, and there is little forgiveness
in this Party. Look at the Repubs and their corruption, they're all about "hey, we're OK, what's the big deal, God's on our side." (in one voice). While so many Dems pick at the inevitable imperfections of our people, and pick at them, and pick at them, and pick at them. We really need to learn to forgive ourselves & our leaders.

There was a recent thread about us not needing the Republicans to defeat us, we have our own party. Well, I've seen them send out a talking point bashing a Dem, & then I've seen it repeated here. So a lot needs to be said for forgiveness & unity. It really will help defeat the evil doers that are in power.

77. I don't know, can you recommend a progressive party...
...that isn't full of right-wing infiltrators like Lieberman, Zell Miller and Joe Biden?

If was a member of that party, I wouldn't have any turncoat members to bitch ABOUT.

Sorry, but political parties are supposed to be based on some sort of ideology and worldview, and when about 1/4 of our party's 'leaders' seem to be more aligned with the other party's stances (more than that in the senate), you're bound to have problems.

Is it so much to ask for a party that says in a UNIFIED VOICE:

NO to war without a DAMN GOOD REASON

NO to tax cuts on the rich and tax breaks for outsourcing of jobs while tightening bankruptcy screws on the underclass

NO to regressive flat-tax schemes

NO to distracting non-issues like steroids in baseball, flag-burning and video games

and YES to a full, complete and impartial investigation of the 9/11 attacks on our country?

Is that SO DAMN MUCH to ask?

107. It is not the discussion ,it is the tone of the debate

that I believe is being questioned.

IMO, the debate can be stimulating and I learn so much here.

But I will say that my main purpose for coming here is to learn more about the issues so that we as a TEAM can help the Democratic Party to grown and we can defeat GWB and the Crooks.

I also believe that people of all races, religions and backgrounds should be respected.

That way, I can grow in my ability to be a broader thinker.

It does disappoint me when I see threads that bring a point of view that will get bashed for no reason. Cutting remarks that are especially hurtful to those that only want to share their perspective.
