FORT STEWART, Ga., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Hundreds of sick and wounded U.S. soldiers including many who served in the Iraq war are languishing in hot cement barracks here while they wait -- sometimes for months -- to see doctors.

The National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers' living conditions are so substandard, and the medical care so poor, that many of them believe the Army is trying push them out with reduced benefits for their ailments. One document shown to UPI states that no more doctor appointments are available from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11 -- Veterans Day.

"I have loved the Army. I have served the Army faithfully and I have done everything the Army has asked me to do," said Sgt. 1st Class Willie Buckels, a truck master with the 296th Transportation Company. Buckels served in the Army Reserves for 27 years, including Operation Iraqi Freedom and the first Gulf War. "Now my whole idea about the U.S. Army has changed. I am treated like a third-class citizen."

One correction in the discussion. Guy said that the dead are flown into Andrews Air Force base. It is actually Dover Air Force base in Delaware. However, Guy is exactly right that the press are barred from filming the arrival of soldiers killed in Iraq since they are not allow access to the base and the planes typically arrive in the dead of night.

Correction to my correction. Wounded to Andrews and dead to Dover.

The letter invited guests to a $1,000-a-plate fund-raiser at O'Dell's suburban Columbus mansion and asked them to consider donating $10,000 each. am quite good at filming. Won a gold medal at the Houston Internation Film Festival. I do not photograph well. But I am a good operator.

We've been using 3/4" U-Matic. I can transfer whatever format you have to 3/4" as long as it's at least 'low end broadcast' quality. What I'd love to get is some shots of various activists (even if they're 'over the shoulder' shots) at their computers posting to the forums both here and at BBV. That and some short interviews with people explaining why they chose to get involved. :)

I got a call last week from the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival wanting to know if this will be done in time for the 2003 New York festival on November 6! I'm afraid there's no way to get it finished by then but we can make the window for 2004 festivals in Miami in February, L.A. in March, New York in April and Las Vegas in July!
A friend who exhibited last year ratted me out. After explaining what it's about they're just dying to have this ASAP! :evilgrin:
