I'll soon have access to my safe deposit box!
My bank in Slidell, LA was flooded by Katrina with six feet of water; the safe deposit boxes were taken to an undisclosed location to be decontaminated by the EPA. I will have access to my box sometime in mid January to remove the contents and close out the account. I'm looking forward to discovering whether my DD-214 has grown gills or our car and truck titles can now procreate. Nothing like a safe deposit box that has to be decontaminated.

1. That's really weird
If they are decontaminating, does that mean they had to open up all the boxes? I feel for you, my friend. I don't think I'd deal very well with all you've had to deal with.

3. At least you'll get something back!
Hope it'll be useful and not green or black or whatever color the mold growth might be.

A Question for my Fellow Veterans

Are there any questions about your attendance record? Are your muster records filled with obfuscation and confusion? Would a Sergeant or a Chief play havoc with your life if you were "in absentia?" How long would it take you to prove that you served honorably? Could you whup out a DD-214 faster than zell miller could lie about being a democrat? - okay, thats a tossup!

My fellow liberals, poke a conservative in the eye with the above scenario. george bush wasn't there. Call it desertion, call it AWOL, all it UA, just CALL IT!!! Call it loud and call it every day until the election. The last thing the white house wants is for you and me to tell the truth about george bush.

That's very kind of you. Its like digging out an oldy but goody. I still CALL IT, every chance I get. I'm like a turd in the punch bowl down at the local VFW; BUT I EARNED MY MEMBERSHIP and they know it.

9. It's my favorite because about 100 DU Vets replied: YES, I have my DD-214
They ALL had it, every single one, and knew where it was and how important it was to preserve it. One after another they reported in - re-read the thread - it was very inspiring. :hi:

8. Thanks CD
Actually we are better off than about 99.9% of the folks within a hundred square miles. Our safe deposit box wasn't in a good location but we are. The gulf coast continues to be a mess with many of our fellow americans still living in tents with temperatures dropping and rain moving in. If you listen to rush limbaugh everything is fine and dandy down here. Hurricanes have kicked this regions ass for hundreds of years and the locals just keep rebuilding and coming back for more.

6. Boss, if your box is being "kept" at an "undisclosed location"...
...I'd expect it's looted by now.

After all, isn't "undisclosed location" the euphemism for "wherever Cheney is today robbing us blind?"

10. Now I know where it is
I have a street address and operable hours. Maybe it was best that is was taken to an "undisclosed" for decontamination. I have every confidence in our bank; they have treated us well throughout this crap. I think cheney would be very happy at an undisclosed where everyone including him didn't know where he was or how to get back from that place.

11. My friend from near Lakeview is going to get his safety deposit
contents from Whitney this Thursday.

I don't think their (Harrison Avenue?) location was flooded, however.

Good luck, you'll need it!

12. I hope your DD-214 is O.K.
From what I've heard, they're a bitch to replace.
