A "war on Christmas" *is* being waged.

It's being waged by right-wing propagandists in an effort to sell books and boost TV and radio ratings. In their media-hype campaign to convince the country that a particular religion or religious holiday is under attack by some imaginary left-wing secularists, they are in fact degrading the very holiday they claim to be protecting.

These people have no shame.

(I know this point has probably been raised here before, but I just had to get it off my chest.)

except on one point. I don't think it's being down to sell books and boost ratings, or at least that's not its primary goal. It's being done as a distraction from the real issues, because they don't want people thinking about those. The right-wing loses on the real issues.

I would add your reasoning to my list. But I am very suspicious of these books they pump out like so much sewage. It's like an echo chamber. You hear one of their ridiculous an unfounded claims on the radio, then they pitch the book, then callers parrot the "examples" in the books and on the TV shows. Circular "proofing." Just my opinion.

however what I believe they are doing is a red herring, a diversion. And guess what? It is working, at least here in Red State Alabama. Nobody talks about the 10 Marines killed in Fallujah trying to secure Bush's oil or Cunningham going down on bribery charges (I could go on and on) All you hear around here is "By Gawd, they bet not throw Christ outta Got Dang CHRISTMAS.
