23. I loved Kent Conrad's presentation on the deficit.

Even more importantly was the presentation of Bush's statement that the reason we went to war was Iraq did not let in the weapons inspectors when, in fact, Bush had to order them out of Iraq before the war.

The best part was when he demonstrated that the deficit was clearly a revenue driven problem, and that the increased spending has been driven by defense and homeland security. Watch the Republicans try to attack that. I would love to see him on the ticket with Dean or another contender. He would perform better than did Perot in the Vice Presidential debates and in forums.

Senator Durbin,

Thanks to you for an excellent job on the floor this am. I caught it on CSPAN and it was wonderful to see you give voice to the questions that so many of us carry in the wake of our invasion of Iraq.

I remain convinced that we were fed a bill of goods about Iraq--that our sons and daughters were put in harm's way based on lies and hidden agendas. The human toll was a large one—and the tragedy grows larger every day. That military action was wrong, and the events that led up to it must be investigated if we ever hope to regain any international credibility or domestic security.

One of the biggest threats to our democracy is the failure to question the actions of this illegitimate administration’s activities. Your actions, along with those of the rest of the Senate Dems, may keep us all from living in a nation our founders would have scorned.

Please know that at least one of your constituents supports and applauds your search for the truth.
