BIG news: 135 cities,38 states,& Canada coming to DC/SF Oct.25
135 CITIES COMING to DC on OCT. 25!

We are excited to announce that there are now more than
135 cities in 38 states and Canada that are organizing
buses, vans and car caravans to be at the October 25
demonstration.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25

National March on Washington DC
*End the occupation of Iraq!
*Bring the troops home now!
*Money for Jobs, Education, Housing - Not War!
*Fight Back Against the Patriot Act!

The Bush administration's pro-war and anti-people program
is galvanizing wider and wider opposition throughout the
country. On October 25 this growing opposition will see
its most dramatic manifestation since the huge anti-war
protests of last winter and spring. If you are outraged
with Bush's lies, arrogance, and criminal conduct, join
the tens of thousands of people are planning to come to
Washington, D.C. on Saturday October 25 for a massive
demonstration against the Bush program, the occupation and
ongoing war in Iraq, and the Ashcroft assault on the Bill
of Rights.
We will meet at the Washington Monument at 11
am and to the White House and the Justice Department. The
A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition thanks the thousands of volunteers
across the country who are working to make this
demonstration a success.

2. I wish I could go too
Oct 25 is the first anniversary of Wellstone's death - it would be a fitting way to remember him.

3. I'll be there but I sure hope it won't be a long day of speeches...
It's turning supporters off. The world knows how we feel about Bush and his misadministration...I think the protest should be solid and silent marching (like around Jerico) and then an ending of beautiful peace chants and songs. Let the numbers, signs and posters do the talking.

4. Great idea
I agree that the speeches are mostly just preaching to the choir, and while I've been to some great marches with inspirational speakers, I think it would have a bigger impact this time to just have a huge show of people and a silent march.

Especially in these huge events, most of the people won't hear the speeches anyway.

5. be sure and bring several signs and posters...that's a big
problem now...lots of people come with NO signs....although it's great to have lots of people...IMO, the signs impact TV coverage and news photos coverage...there's always a need for MORE signs...

it's surpising how much fighting goes on behind-the-scenes by people wanting to spout off on the stage...it's considered an honor and it's a boost for certain groups, lots of sponsors and they want to get their speaker up on stage so as to get coverage...but it's hard to assure that the speakers are actually good-rally rousers...that's a special kinds of public speaking....to speak to a crowd in a BIG outdoor arena is challenging...and I agree, not too many speakers are really good at it...

but, it's a great social event...come meet new friends, meet your neighbors and church goers...enjoy the signs, costumes, music, political discussions, colors, ethnicities, native dresses, street theatre....just being around so many people who share my views is uplifting...

or you can go down to the other side of the Mall and enjoy Bob Dornan's little groups of angry white men...that's always good for a laugh....

8. You don't have to stay...
and listen to the entire rally. Usually, the march around the White House begins long before the rally ends.

I look forward to meeting all of you DU'ers who are coming.
