"Just a bottle rocket, keep Christmas shopping"
Just a bottle rocket

The plane was over water when the pilot said he saw a smoke trail pass by the cockpit.

FBI agents believe it was a flare or a bottle rocket, but say they may never know if that's what it actually was.

So the FBI and Homeland Security statement is basically, "no there was no missile fired at a plane leaving LAX. And NO there was not a person who tried three times to get into a football stadium with 80,000 people with a bomb strapped on to him, he was just committing suicide, we are NOT going to talk about these things, get back to Christmas shopping! Now!"

1. I sure don't buy "Bottle Rocket"
Flare maybe, but a bottle rocket would get up to the cockpit only if the plane was sitting on the ground. Or are there new super bottle rockets now?

4. Funny thing about witnesses and the FBI
When they are trying to convict someone the FBI and law enforcement say an eyewitness is the best evidence and just can not be challenged, yet when it is something they don't want to talk about they all of a sudden sound like defense attorneys "he had to be mistaken, no way he saw this person at his gate trying to enter the stadium, had to be someone else."

3. There are big ones that will go over 500 feet.
Practically all of them have a big report or explosive display at the end though, so it seems like someone should have seen it go off.

7. There are many sizes of them now, but I don't think any sold here are
powerful enough to reach a jetliner on takeoff. It would have to be more of a model-rocket size device.
