Rick Santorum redefines "chutzpah".
I live in Pennsylvania, and today I saw the first offering from the immense tv war chest of my junior senator, Rick Santorum. Much like the man who kills both his parents and then begs the court for leniency because he is an orphan, Senator Ricky is garnering responses of "WTF?!?!?" by focusing his new ad campaign for 2006 on his role as a champion of....

wait for it....

Social Security.

That's right. One of the biggest supporters of Bush's privatization scheme; one of the last dead-enders to hold out when the rest of the G.O.P. realized that the Bush S.S. plan was a millstone around their necks, Santorum is now claiming to be a savior of Social Security.

I almost pity those of you who don't live in PA - you're going to miss the desperation ads this guy's gonna run for the next year. I so can't wait to see him get his psychotic, "man-on-dog love"-talkin', dead-fetus-playin', Social Security-destroyin' asshanded to him next November.

3. "hey hey ho ho, Social Security has got to go!"
actual chant by Santorum supporters...

<snip>

JOE JOHNS, CNN CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It has all the trappings of a political campaign. Signs, chants and true believers on both sides, disagreeing on whether younger Americans would get a burden or a benefit from private retirement accounts.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don't want them to have to worry about Social Security, worry about whether the stock market's going to go up or down.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's a lot better than getting nothing, which, if we don't do anything, that's what's going to happen.

JOHNS: It's Drexel University in Philadelphia, day two of a week-long Social Security state tour by Republican senator Rick Santorum, pitchman for the president's plan. College Republicans show up to support him. They're trying to persuade people that there is a genuine crisis in Social Security and that the program needs to be modernized to survive. But at one point, it sounds more like they want to scrap it.

CROWD: Hey, hey, ho, ho, Social Security's got to go!

JOHNS: Not exactly the message the president is trying to send.
