Laura makes daring decorating breakthrough
Yep, this year Laura will be decking the halls with test tubes. Just think of all the embryos and stem cells that will be saved by Laura using up all the test tubes in the world to decorate her Christmas trees.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House is experimenting with a nontraditional Christmas tree decoration this year -- laboratory test tubes.

As part of the "All Things Bright and Beautiful" theme selected for the 2005 holiday season, first lady Laura Bush came up with the idea of decorating Christmas trees with fresh flowers.

That left White House Chief Florist Nancy Clarke with the problem of keeping all those roses, lilies and azaleas properly hydrated.

4. This is probably the only decent idea the woman has ever had...
...I like it.

However, why on Earth is this a breaking news story on CNN?!

This story is a sidebar that belongs in Redbook or Good Housekeeping.

7. It's breaking news
because it's the first time in this woman's whole life that she can be credited with having a good idea. Obviously, marrying George was never considered one of her better choices.

for someone to replace these fresh flowers on a regular basis? Um...fresh flowers must be changed pretty damned often....or they start stinking.

Jeez. These people think we are made of $$$$$$$$$. As our heating bills soar.

On edit: And meanwhile, they are cutting benefits to veterans. WTF is important to these people?

18. All the Lump You can Stand in One Holiday Video of random footage
I saw these two yesterday and compiled them. A few observations. It was women reporters sent out to interview Lump. Second, Lump had her talking points all planned. And, there were a few ludicrous points about it- the idea that having fresh fruits and flowers to keep up constantly was "simple", all while talking about Pakistan, and people being given a little brochure about the flowers.

19. Pickles "came up with the idea?? It's nearly 500 years old.
"In The Christmas Tree Book, there are two other accounts, one from 1510 in Riga, the other 1514 in Reval. They tell of a strange Christmas Eve tradition in Riga where "after a festive dinner, black-hatted members of the local merchants' guild carried an evergreen tree decorated with artificial roses to the market place, where, . . . they danced around the tree and then set fire to it.""
