Texas Students Exchange Bibles for Porn
Texas Students Exchange Bibles for Porn
By: David Woodman
Posted: 10:40 am PST 12-1-2005

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A group of atheists at the University of Texas at San Antonio was asking students to exchange bibles for porn magazines Wednesday and that has made some religious leaders angry, according to a report by San Antonio TV station WOAI-TV.

At a Wednesday night church service, The Bible is the bond between believers, but on the University of Texas at San Antonio campus a group of students were calling scripture - smut.

“We consider The Bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world,” student Ryan Walker told WOAI-TV. He is part of a student group calling itself the "Atheist Agenda."

Club members were on campus asking students to exchange religious materials for pornographic magazines like Black Label and Playboy, according to the report.

What a great idea. If I ever get in trouble with the local authorities, I might just try it.

2. Oh geeeeeez
talk about playing right into their hands. Exchange Bibles for porn. Man, this is going to shouted out of a zillion pulpits on Sunday and will probably result in a whole LOT of altar calls.

I understand the point but I question the effectiveness or the wisdom.

6. You may be the voice of reason
but it is funny....

You remind me of my wife, always knocking down my over the top hair-brained schemes...

I'm lucky to have her.

4. i would think an atheist proselytising atheism would be
a quid pro quo that the proselytising fundies could understand . . . if they understood what quid pro quo meant in the first place.

They just did their first thesis.

I have a feeling that they didn't convince anyone who had a better use for a bible anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Personally, I think America needs a new organization:

The National Bible Association complete with Chuck whatsisname carrying on about how they'll have to pry his bible from his cold dead hands, and people in the biblejeon on DU going on about how the bible grabbers are everywhere and how concealed bible laws are bad and anyone should be able to carry a bible in public, plus all the charming emails about how some tallahasseegrannee saved the day at the supermarket when they were getting robbed by extremist muslim radical islam fanatic gangbangers, by whipping out her semiautomatic bible and blasting them away with round after round of scripture and verse.

Oh my. did someone put hallucinutropical drugs in my coffee again? Oh, wait, I haven't had any coffee yet. . .

edit: apologies to the real tallahasseegranny for shamelessly incorporating her into my riff

;) I know my Bible like the back of my hand and in the OT there's all sorts of good stuff! All the way from Lot sleeping with his daughters (of course he didn't know he was) to Joseph.

We've seen the fruits of the Bible. I'm not impressed. Maybe more "alone time" would have a calming affect.

16. Ha! The definition of Porn? What was it some lawmaker said?
"I can't tell you what porn is but I know it when I see it". He just forgot to add "and I've seen it all".

18. Oh, yeah, good ol' Justice Potter Stewart
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 03:36 PM by Angry Girl
In 1964, Justice Potter Stewart tried to explain "hard-core" pornography, or what is obscene, by saying, "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced . . . but I know it when I see it . . . "

Not so long ago, a woman's revealing her stocking-covered ankles in "civilized" Victorian society was considered a slut. And didn't Ashcroft have a thing against boobs? He probably have rejected his mother's teat. Or maybe his mother rejected the little abomination....

21. Of course, he was not.
He was, however, a vegetarian.

Reminding myself of that is one of the ploys I use to rationalize my continued consumption of juicy, delicious meat.

20. Funny.
Reminds me of those gun buy backs. Get that dangerous hocus-pocus, mumbo-jumbo, superstitious malarkey off the streets!

If I had a Bible, I'd be first in line to turn it in for some good smut!

LOL.

22. well, they do have a point . . . the Bible has caused a hell of a lot . .
more heartache and destruction than porn ever has . . . has a war ever been launched based on the teachings of Hugh Hefner? . . . has a country ever been invaded and its citizens massacred because Ron Jeremy felt the need to swing his endowment? . . . I think not . . .
