O’Reilly Claims He Is Personally Responsible For Lower Gas Prices

O’Reilly Claims He Is Personally Responsible For Lower Gas Prices
In an interview yesterday with Fox News’s Neil Cavuto, Bill O’Reilly claimed that his reporting intimidated oil company CEOs into lowering gasoline prices:

O’REILLY: I have guys inside the five major oil companies - my father used to work for one of those oil companies by the way - who have told me that in those meetings they look for every way to jack up oil prices after Katrina, every way, when they didn’t have to. They got scared because of my reporting and reporting of some others. They said, “Uh ho.”

CAVUTO: So wait a minute, you’re not, you’re taking credit for gas prices being down from where they are?

O’REILLY: I said my reporting and some reporting of others. They got scared.

29. I tend to agree
I caught a little of his spiel last night on Cavuto (it was late, I was bored) and yeah, he sounded bat-shit crazy.

He was justifying the "businesses should thank Jesus for being born" crap he'd spewed the day before. The contortions were incredible. I kept thinking that "Where Would Jesus Shop" isn't such a good statement.

42. Businesses should thank Jesus for being born?
But Jesus didn't even invent lower gas prices (OR encourage people to go shopping, for that matter). I think it's time for Bill to demand his own holiday.

41. i was a big howard fan until a year ago
in the past year he's developed a nasty habit of taking credit for anything creative on tv or radio.

examples:
recently he announced that "mtv unplugged" was his idea because he was the first person to put live acoustic music on the radio.

he has also taken credit for re-inventing satellite radio, although he has yet to say a word on satellite and won't for months.

he has taken credit for inventing reality tv as well, although i don't remember his rationale.

he has been innovative, and at times a genius for radio comedy and i imagine his satellite ventures might be worthwhile, but he has a very big head and a knack for self-aggrandizing.

he is also a bit of a hypocrite, making himself the posterboy/victim for free speech while attacking other people then using his influence within viacom to silence them when they fought back.

26. So The Senate Talking Investigations Into. . .
. . .price fixing and gouging had nothing to do with. The Senate, with subpoena power, talking investigation didn't scare the oil execs, but reporters talking about talking about it did?

Yeah, ok.

Clearly there's a connection between people thinking investigation and the drop in prices. Clearly he's right in that they used any possible excuse to drive up prices without any connection to demand or supply. But, i somehow think the Senate talking investigation is a far scarier prospect than a twit like O'Reilly "knowing some people".
