Howard Deans Blunt Message: Forget Palistine

Recently Dean returned from a week-long jaunt to Israel sponsored by the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC). Shortly after his return Dean spoke to an elite crowd of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) friends and lobbyists in Philadelphia about his trip to Israel. And the audience was pleased with what they heard. http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_282.shtml

5. Quote from Dean's address:
"We all support the vision of two states living side by side in peace and security. But, the establishment of a Palestinian state must be contingent on the cessation of violence and terror. The Palestinian Authority must dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and continue the on-going transformation to leaders untainted by terror."

Frank left that one out.

I've come pretty close to calling AIPAC a terrorist organization, but fair is fair. My major beef with Dean's speech is that he felt the need to make the speech at all. I'm pretty upset that our party chair keeps trying to butter up AIPAC - in Israel - at a time when everything is sooooo delicate. Dean is making a huge mistake if he thinks buddying up to AIPAC will keep Jews in the party.

6. In the Primaries Dean got in trouble with Jewish groups
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 06:24 AM by mandyky
by saying we ought to be more even handed in the Israel/Palestine issue.

Just a note, Howard Dean's wife is Jewish, his children were raised Jewish. Other than that I never got the feeling Dean was overly pro-Israel.
