Rolling Stones to perform at Super Bowl
After the release of their latest album and tour that featured an Anti-bush song, the Stones were threatened with exclusion from the Superbowl entertainment list.

Apparently, the RWingnuts are outnumbered nowadays, because the Stones are now the featured headliners.

Since the show is notoriously live, do you think they would sing the song "sweet neo-con"? What would the network do if these lyrics were presented to the entire world? Would they go to commercials in the middle of the set? I know it's too much to expect, but I never expected to see Janet Jackson's tit either.

It's a cool song:

1. Dedicate this song to Bu$h: "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
You Can't Always Get What You Want

I saw her today at a reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
And if you try sometime you find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

Oh yeah, hey hey hey, oh...

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
Sing it to me now...

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
Oh baby, yeah, yeah!

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him

You can't always get what you want, no!
You can't always get what you want (tell ya baby)
You can't always get what you want (no)
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
Oh yes! Woo!

You get what you need--yeah, oh baby!
Oh yeah!

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

You can't always get what you want (no, no baby)
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need, ah yes...

4. I loved the ending of this song....
when they include an orchestra and a boys choir singing in scale steps up to a crescendo then the final groove.

It is almost the perfect tune for a "peak experience". If you catch my drift.... :hippie:

2. This year's Super Bowl is going to be one for the books

Jesus and Kurt Warner are going to be working together - and now the Stones!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=214&topic_id=38149&mesg_id=38203

I'll appreciate anything the Stones throw out. They aren't a shadow of their former selves by any measure but they are preferable in my book to any lame-ass failed model turned "singer" or boy band or corporate hack Country concoction.

3. Didn't John Fogerty play "Fortunate Son" in last year's Super Bowl?
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 09:54 PM by calipendence
Not sure if they knew he was going to do that then, but perhaps Fogerty's playing that last year lead to them being more conscious of the potential for the Stones playing Sweet Neocon this year!

Love it!

5. I've read seveal reviews of the Stones shows and none of the them
mention the band doing "Neo-con." They didn't do while here in Seattle. Frankly, it would have been more welcome than "Rain Fall Down" which didn't translate well, IMHO, to live performance.

6. I wonder if they have the balls to play Sweet Neo-Con?
They'll probably play "Let's spend some time together" before they'll play that, but I'm going to remain hopeful...

8. Yeah, and it's not like they NEED the gig....
They're rich and popular enough to not care about any flak. I know it is a long shot, but the idea is fun.

BTW when I was growing up, I thought that line was "Let's spend the night together." That seemed so cool back then. Ah, youth. B-)

10. You remember correctly
but when they appeared on Ed Sullivan, he made them change the lyrics. That was the first time Mick sold out. I hope he's outgrown it.

7. If Keith Richards shows nipple, I'm calling the FCC
There's no way that would qualify as "decent" :P

12. Keith Olbermann's comments on this on Dan Patrick's radio show:
(regarding this from a logical sequence standpoint) "Last year they had Paul McCartney. This year they're having the Rolling Stones. Who will they have next year? Gerry and the Pacemakers? The Dave Clark Five?"

Also, about the prospect of Keith Richards "pulling a Janet Jackson": "I only hope he pulls a Janet Jackson, and doesn't pull himself."

16. A Bigger Bang rocks!
And not just for Sweet Neo Con. They could do without Rough Justice, but Back Of My Hand, Infamy, or She Saw Me Coming are great! Wow. Instant classics! Amazing what can happen when Jagger/Richards are left to their own devices.

17. about 30 years ago, Mick Jagger said something like . . .
"If I'm still singing 'Satisfaction' when I'm 60, shoot me" . . .

still a great band, but seniors singing rock 'n' roll does come off as a bit silly . . .

I actually don't care about modern day Stones at all, but I fully support them continuing on. That's what they no how to do.

BTW I'm 37.

19. Do people actually watch those silly half-time shows?
I couldn't believe all the nipple outrage a few years ago, I've watched every single Super Bowl and never once tortured myself by watching a half-time show.

Its about football, not some washed up singers.

even more so if da Bears are in da Superbowl!

As for the Stones, you gotta give em their props. Those grandpas can still put on a good live show. :headbang:
