One of the most powerful and heartfelt speeches on the floor in a long time. This is a must see.

1. Thank you for this link.
Gene Taylor is helping a lot of us in MS with our FEMA hassles - he may be DLC, but he is definitely pro constituents and is tired of the misuse of federal funds and no bid contracts to buddies of the GOP.

bookmarked and thanks! :hi:

2. I sure enjoyed his speaking from the heart here.
It's such a relief to hear him damn the corporate contributors.

9. He is a good man - he is trying his damnedest to help us.
I don't agree with his legislation that would allow us to buy back into the flood insurance - I think it is letting the insurance corporations off the hook. They are screwing us like crazy and they must be held accountable, but that being said, at least he is trying and calling the admin on their lies.

I'm proud to say he is my congressman.

20. You have a great rep there!
I sure wish the citizens of my resident state of Idaho had the guts to elect someone of his calibre and convictions.

Please take a vow with me to work against a republican in your state in '06. Lets run those son of a bitches out of office.

Does anyone have a clue where I can find a transcript of this?

4. This should appear all over
and shame should be heaped on EVERYONE (Dem and Puke alike) who have voted for the fat-cat interests.

Shame on our government.

6. Thanks! I'm glad you like the clip-I made it in the first place and
it's been up on the main page of CanOFun for the last week at least. There are a lot of other political clips of, particularly, House speeches, that you can find by doing a search.

Here's the link to the main page and Gene is prominently on the front

for the link. I have been everywhere looking for a transcript and didn't have any luck. You would think that Taylor would post it on his website. Oh well, <sigh>

7. Kick.... I was in Pascagoula today..... saw the trees snapped in
two, the billboards just obliterated, twisted metal, tent city, trailer city, and all the rest. This man is right on the mark, kicked and nominated.

13. And Pascagoula was not hit as hard as the other cities.
Waveland doesn't exist anymore, Bay St. Louis (Taylor's home town) and Pass Christian were devastated.

Gene Taylor is right on the mark, I challenge Trent Lott or Thad Cochran to make such an honest, heart felt speech.

16. Beautiful speech
Very beautiful and passionate. I love listening to him speak. He always does wonderful (and has a nice southern accent too). And I loved how he laid it down to the rightwingers but they won't care. *sigh* And it is disgusting how you cut programs that help the poor but not the rich. How is that fair?! One time just try not giving the rich the tax cuts and see how it goes. *sigh* I loved how the democrats clapped for him.

17. Kick & Rec.
Rep. Taylor's working so hard to help his consitituents - check out his web-site; it's almost like he's trying to singlehandedly bring back the district when FEMA wouldn't. I remember when Rep. Taylor was grilling "Brownie" during the hearing - he seemed so outraged & angry. Now he just looks sad and demoralized. He looks like he just wandered onto the House floor straight from Miss. - not even wearing a suit. I really hope he shamed all of those Republicans with a moment of truth in the midst of their benefit-cutting spree.

18. Gene Taylor seems to be a good man
I saw him speak at the 12 Mile South rally just a week before Katrina.

I was impressed with him then. Not bad to look at either.

25. Nope
In this video he looked tired and you could tell he's spiritually drained by his eyes. Poor guy. Hopefully he can find time to spend with the family to reenergize himself. And he is cute.

19. Dems in red states need to follow Taylor's lead
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 09:37 PM by Hippo_Tron
Taylor represents a district that went overwhelmingly for Bush in both elections. Yet he continues to be overwhelmingly re-elected. Admittedly, he's no model for a progressive dem. On social issues he votes like a Republican and considering his constituency, you can see why.

But on everything but the divisive social issues, Taylor is an excellent Democrat. He has been trashing Shrub's economic policies since he came to office and talking about how they are hurting working families. He has been critical of shurb's lies and shortcoming with regard to the Iraq War, even notice that he had no trouble calling him a liar about the WMD in this speech.

He truly is a model for a conservative populist Democrat and I think is very undesrving of the DINO label that some give him. People like Zell Miller and Ben Nelson are DINOs. Taylor may be with them on social issues, but he is fighting day and night for working class people in his district. Ben Nelson and Zell Miller haven't done jack shit for the working people in their states.

Another thing about Congressman Taylor.... he seems to have no problem telling the truth. Republicans lie and Democrats stay silent and don't say anything about it. We need more people like Taylor to break through the Republican lies and tell the truth.

Rep. Taylor sees how far gone the other side is. The question is can Mr. and Mrs. Exurbia America be made to see it the way he does? Or will the forces of Murdoch win again? We'll find out soon enough.
