the president STRIKES BACK TODAY
on nbc, they just said that the president intends to set the record straight to day about the confusion surrounding the state of the union lies. while blair visits i assume, he will make his case for going to war. lemmee get this straight, the war is over, mission accomplished, but now he makes his case? should be a fun day, heads up.

1. He's going to say the same stuff, but louder and with more
...hand gestures. Really decisive ones. And he'll glower and we'll know he's really Angry About All This Nonsense. Now go to your room and stay there until you're ready to behave!

Or he'll announce he's accepted Tenet's resignation. Which won't fix anything, sorry George.

3. And afterwards, compliant media will say, "he's settled the matter"
regardless of what he says or doesn't say, or what new can of worm he opens.

6. The right wing nut site...
newsmax has a story, dated yesterday, that says they found the "motherlode" of documents proving Iraq had a "weapons program". It says Tom Brokaw interviewed some guy about it yesterday. Since I don't watch network news (and rarely watch cable anymore), I missed it entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised if that story is part of the case he'll make today.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've had about enough of allowing their spin to dictate our responses! Instead of arguing about those "16 words" and the weapons programs (when it used to be WMDs), we should just come out and say, "you're being untruthful and duplicitous, and it's not going to fly this time." Then we should proceed to bludgeon them, unmercifully, about the head and shoulders with the truth and its negative ramifications for all of us. Forget those "16 words", breakdown the entire SOTU and all of the lies told prior to it and after it.

13. You don't send Tom Brokaw
to spin your bs on IMUS, when you have solid evidence. When you have solid evidence, you go to the Washington Post or the NYT, or you hold an official press conference. You go to Imus, when you need to feed some more bullshit to your base.

Anyway, today should be another interesting day. Not only is Tony not going to publicly accept his medal, he cut his trip down to a real quicky. Bet he would have rather skipped the US stop altogether but of course it was too late for that.

I am sure that W and the poodle will have some astounding announcement to make, proving that Saddam had a massive ongoing WMD program, and the naysayers will all be silenced and the world will be in awe of their greatness. Then again, they could continue to blather the same worn out bullshit and act insulted that anyone could dare to doubt their intentions and intelligence.

21. Yeah, only hasn't that story been out for 3-4 weeks?
I remember reading about this "motherlode" of documents back some weeks ago. The mother of all motherlodes, I bet. Only, how come nothing came of it then? Sounds to me like the standard chaff-and-deflection technique. They'll say it with a big splash, then a few days later we'll slowly find out it was mostly a boxcar full of specifications for the next couple hundred palaces Saddam was going to build and there was a reference to aluminum tubes in there somewhere.

I don't think it's going to be easy to get off this hook, even with a feckless media.

4. Seems the hearings yesterday with Tenet did not go well for them.
Seems like Tenet gave alot of info. Public hearings are being promised as well as a public report on yesterday. Hope the space it with the 9/11 report. If they come out at the same time is it over for Cheney?

16. Just remember what Helen Thomas said....
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 08:33 AM by hobbes159
during Ari's last press briefing about Bush's lack of press briefings:
"Did you tell him {Bush} two questions does not make a press conference? "

I'd like to see an hour-long, unscripted, open-question press conference by *. I'd also like to win the lottery. The latter is probably more likely than the former.

10. This way he
doesn't have to face the press alone and gets ol' eloquent Blair to run interference.

particularly lucid lately, either.

15. ..did you hear?
...heard on Imus this morning...(paraphrase) Cheney and Rumsfield lied and they knew they were lying....Mary Matelin has been called back to straighten things out........

Also heard yesterday that Cheney said they were going on the offensive.

Imus is convinced that lies were told...he told Barnicle that he should be humiliated for being such a cheerleader for the war...said bushies should just hold a press conference and tell the truth....

Is Imus turning on the admin?

19. Let's see if Bush/Rove pull out the heavy artillery

If they use some 9/11 reminders, we'll know they're concerned.

They had hoped to save the 9/11 ammo for the re-election campaign.

20. Things are getting really serious when
Boyden and Howard are called out of the trenches. Also Babs will start showing up with some recipes for George’s favorite brownies from college (absent the best ingredients).
