Why Bernie Ward is so cool.....
He just took a call from a fundy who brought up the old Leviticus condemnation of homosexuality as an abomination worthy of death. Bernie argued with him.

The guy at one point said "Bernie, you just don't know what you're talking about," and Bernie let it slide.

Bernie is a former Catholic priest, and yet I NEVER ever hear him use that fact in his defense. He just argues the point.

He's quite a guy.

1. Actually he was in training
I heard him say this week that if it were up to him divorce wouldn't be legal.

2. two things...
according to his bio, he's listed as a former Franciscan priest.

The divorce should be illegal discussion was tongue in cheek. He was discussing the various Defense of Marriage acts around the country and a possible constitutional amendment. I think he was trying to make the point that marriage is much more threatened by divorce than by gay unions.

I'm sure if you asked him outside of that rhetorical argument, he wouldn't really believe in outlawing divorce.

5. ok
I just heard him say that he would outlaw divorce but he sounded serious (said it more than once to callers). If he was really an ordained priest then do you have any knowledge of why he quit? I thought he just had second thoughts.

4. from the KGO website:
Not only does Bernie have his two talk shows, The Bernie Ward Show and Godtalk, he is also a highly-effective reporter for KGO's news department. He was assigned to the Macedonia border to investigate and report on the crisis in Kosovo. He also received a Scripps Howard Award for Excellence in Journalism for his work on a ten-part series, Heaven Help Us, which explored allegations of financial and sexual misconduct in the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. It was a perfect issue for Bernie. It combined his religious background (he's a former Franciscan priest) and his investigative skills. Bernie has proven over and over that he is a crusader with a heart of gold. The annual Thanksgiving Charities campaign benefiting the hungry and homeless of the Bay Area is a charge Bernie personally leads. This campaign raises thousands of dollars from Bernie's loyal and generous listeners - proof that his passionate and pertinent show moves people not only to listen, but to participate as well.

7. If only
Bernie and Ray Taliaferro had national audiences. It would be such a wonderful balance to the right- wing that is all so many people hear.
They take calls from all sides and don't just rant their points of view unchallenged as the right talk shows do.They intelligently back it up with facts and bring so much info to the audience that they just don't hear elsewhere.
