Do leftiers really hate right-wingers?
When I look at this,,.... yeah. Pretty much.

A supporter of U.S. President George W. Bush attends a rally in Crawford, Texas November 26, 2005. The poster shows an image of Bush and anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who continues to protest near Bush's ranch over his stance on troops still in Iraq. REUTERS/Jim Young

7. To be honest, we need to put them in their place.

Right-wingers are the "school-yard bullies" and us left-leaning, human rights activists are the "nice-guys." At some point we will tire of putting up with the bullshit and they will pay a large price.

I think of a Kenny Rogers' song:
_________________________________

Ev’ryone considered him the coward of the county.
He’d never stood one single time to prove the county wrong.
His mama named him tommy, the folks just called him yellow,
But something always told me they were reading tommy wrong.

He was only ten years old when his daddy died in prison.
I looked after tommy ’cause he was my brother’s son.
I still recall the final words my brother said to tommy:
Son, my life is over, but yours is just begun.

Promise me, son, not to do the things I’ve done.
Walk away from trouble if you can.
It won’t mean you’re weak if you turn the other cheek.
I hope you’re old enough to understand:
Son, you don’t have to fight to be a man.

There’s someone for ev’ryone and tommy’s love was becky.
In her arms he didn’t have to prove he was a man.
One day while he was workin’ the gatlin boys came callin’.
They took turns at becky.... there was three of them!

Tommy opened up the door and saw his becky cryin’.
The torn dress, the shattered look was more than he could stand.
He reached above the fireplace and took down his daddy’s picture.
As his tears fell on his daddy’s face, he heard these words again:

Promise me, son, not to do the things I’ve done.
Walk away from trouble if you can.
It won’t mean you’re weak if you turn the other cheek.
I hope you’re old enough to understand:
Son, you don’t have to fight to be a man.

The gatlin boys just laughed at him when he walked into the barroom.
One of them got up and met him halfway ’cross the floor.
When tommy turned around they said, hey look! ol’ yellow’s leavin’.
But you coulda heard a pin drop when tommy stopped and blocked the door.

Twenty years of crawlin’ was bottled up inside him.
He wasn’t holdin’ nothin’ back; he let ’em have it all.
When tommy left the barroom not a gatlin boy was standin’.
He said, this one’s for becky, as he watched the last one fall.
And I heard him say,

I promised you, dad, not to do the things you done.
I walk away from trouble when I can.
Now please don’t think I’m weak, I didn’t turn the other cheek,
And papa, I sure hope you understand:
Sometimes you gotta fight when you’re a man.

Ev’ryone considered him the coward of the county.

9. Lots of hate on both sides
Which bleeds over into the discourse. IIRC Kerry was caught by a live microphone expressing such sentiments.

Lack of personal respect is becoming more common these days and political discourse whether its on the national or local level is degenerating rapidly. Its a real shame.

15. I want to recall seeing it on TV news during the election
Thus my qualifier "IIRC".

Again, *IIRC* he was addressing a campaign rally, words caught after the formal remarks were of describing the Repukes as dirty, ruthless, unprincipled etc. It was water cooler conversation the next day at the office. I was not the only one who saw the report.

16. Never claimed they weren't
Just that there is a lot of hate on both sides that is hampering reasoned discourse. The animosity levels is at time worrisome.

If by definition the person who honestly disagrees with you is a loathsome scumbag fit only for the public scorn and ridicule, working with them, which is often necessary to achieve common goals, is that much harder.

Civility matters is government is going to work and be productive

Edited on Sat Nov-26-05 04:51 PM by thebigidea
explain to me how Kerry, running against Bush in 04, could've worked with them to achieve common goals.

expecting candidates running for President to work together to "achieve common goals" is either insanity or disengeousness at best.

22. Not even close
I have never heard an elected Democratic official calling for violence against repub officials, members of the judiciary, or opponents that they disagree with--but I have heard calls to violence from repukes on the floor of the House & Senate. I have heard a high powered lobbyist for the repubs call for the assassination of the head of state of a foreign nation. So when we see mindless freepers reflecting the feeling that violence against the left is legitimate it comes from the leadership of their party.

If you just want to look at the non-violent rhetoric on both sides of the isle, I cannot see how anyone but a republican can say that they are comparable.

19. Just so long they prefer listening to their petty pundits, who tell them
that we don't think, we just feel and not bother to talk to REAL people (their coworkers and family) on REAL issues, they're worth nobody's time.

I always keep an open mind. Yet I know rethugs at work who button their pieholes when I come into the room because the grapevine has me pegged as a liberal. (they conveniently forget the times I've been in the same room with them and they start to talk, and I openly agree with them or worst case scenario ask legitimate questions in an nonthreatening manner.)

These people are not capable of critical thought because if they were they could not support a president*, party, & policies that have brought this country to it's knees. It saddens me deeply, angers me greatly.
