We need our own "Michelle Malkin" !
No not a raving lunatic who defends internment camps, but a 'columnist' who focuses on conservative blogs and discussion forums and quotes their calls to violence, racism, bigotry, etc, and documents them all in one place.

happy turkey day, eveyone!

11. no, Malkin & Coulter serve another purpose entirely
I've been saying this for the 2 years & 1 month I've been on DU. Coulter & Malkin help the RW move the debate and the country to the right. Those two (and a few others) are so extremely RW that when a Republican comes along and is maybe to the left of them on 1 or 2 issues, they are hailed as a moderate or, at worst, an independent thinker or maverick Republican.

Look at it this way:
1964, Barry Goldwater, so extreme at the time, he was out of the mainstream and got swamped in the general election in a landslide of historic proportions. Yet, today his pro-choice, pro-environment and pro-gays in the military views would make him a moderate to liberal Republican.

2004, John McCain is seen as a moderate for supporting campaign finance reform, yet is anti-choice and I'm pretty sure is against gays openly serving in the military and is almost certainly to the right of Goldwater on an issue by issue basis.

44. That's what I've been long saying about Fox 'News'
My old tag line here was:

'Fox News is just there to make the rest of the media seem centrist'

Thankfully the left has realized in the past couple of years that Fox is not Republican. The media as a whole is Republican, and Fox's incessant Conservative propaganda gives them cover by skewing everyone's perception. It's one of the reasons I think we need a progressive news network.

But Dems have woken up, especially since the media's Swiftboat promotion campaign, and now see them for what they are. They're not doing too well anymore pretending that they are centrist with Democrats.

18. i believe in redemption
but first the sinner has to acknowledge their sin and repent.
malkin gets enough face time to give it up live, but she never has, and i suspect never will.

you gotta have a soul to be bothered by the intentional, willful damage you do to other human beings.

if you want a fuller picture of those really rare but truly evil folks out there, perhaps a malkin or a cheney, or a rove (i don't know them so i couldn't say) read M. Scott Peck's "People of the Lie." Scarier than Stephen King.

After spending 25 years in human serives, dealling with all kinds of people and all kinds of issues, i'd stake out a belief, like peck, that evil and soul-lessness are connected, that evil is a diagnosable form of mental illness; and that while it can be diagnosed, it is very difficult to treat.

Self hate is its own reward. The damage to all touched by it is so wasteful.

The world needs less not more of the spiteful, ugly beings.

21. no self to hate...
i have a friend who is a pretty prominent forensic psychiatrist; recently had a bestselling book on Scott Peterson based on extensive interviews with people who grew up with him, including (for a while) parents.

i was left with a distinct impression that there was no way, based on what was essentially a psychological autopsy of peterson, he wasn't going to kill someone by the time he was 45.

he was a deep, dark hole of a human being, an imitation of a person with a soul.

and he was created, not born that way.

thankfully, in all my years of human services (over 20 working with those with mental illness) I remain convinced that there is a finite, small number of these parasitic, soul-less types around.

i have endless sympathy for them, but lor' bejeebus, keep'em away from me and my family.

10. The problem(s) with Michelle "Malkin" Maglalang:
• Michelle has admitted that she does not write at least some of her blog entries -- I'd bet her hubby, right-wing stooge Adam Malkin, actually "writes" most of it or at least provides the talking points and arguments.
• Michelle's an anti-Japanese bigot.
• Michelle can't hold her own on confrontational talk shows.
• Michelle has a bad habit of making herself the target of ridicule even with the small stuff (for example, the copyright on her latest screed reads "©2005 Michelle Maglalang" -- her maiden name -- a move which even conservative bloggers tweaked)

So do we need a "Michelle Malkin"? No. We need an anti-Malkin: informed, fast on her feet, unflappable, and not afraid to deride, ridicule and browbeat the opposition and frame them as fools, phonies, puppets, parrots and stooges.

In fact, we've got her already. her name is Janeane Garofalo.

Mmmm, yummy... I'm in love...

26. Yeah kinda sorta...
But not before she plays the race card. In the first paragraph:
"His question was prompted by vicious anonymous bloggers who portray me as a greedy Asian whore/dupe/brainwashing victim who simply parrots what my white slavemasters program into my empty little head. These critics have stepped up attacks on my husband Jesse as a fanatical right-wing puppeteer orchestrating all I do and say."

So I start following her links to see which blog said that about her. The funny thing was, all her links are to more stories on her web site. She never manages to actually come up with a single link to someone who "portrays" her in that manner. What a twit.

piece of trash that sold out her soul for her 15 minutes of fame and chump change. She is a mouthpiece just like the rest. Her "area" of claim is the internment camps because her handlers calculated that an asian woman can get away with far more of these ridiculous claims than say...a white man.

31. Malkin is a whiny little puke
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 03:02 AM by Tactical Progressive
whose latest ploy is to document the hate messages she recieves, which are just a pale, dim reflection of the number of hate messages her ilk puts out everywhere. She's trying to prove that, in essence, Dems are as bad as Republicans. It's on the order of how Democrats are the real racists and Democrats are the ones who hurt the poor.

Everybody who's ever been on the internet knows that there is thousands of times the racism, bigotry and hate pouring forth from right-wingers than from lefties, day after day after day, in every nook and cranny of the net.

So she's trying to publicize the .0001 to make it seem like we're just as bad. We can't do that because while she can spend a half-hour on C-SPAN spewing about the hate mail she's received over the past five months, it would take 387 C-SPAN shows an hour to catalog the amount of right-wing hatred and racism and bigotry and calls for violence that occur every hour on the net. C-SPAN doesn't have 387 shows every hour; they only have three networks and they probably want to show other stuff once in a while. Nor do publishing houses have the ability to publish 168,422 books on right-wing hate speech every five months to match her one.

No, the best way to deal with their kind of petty, phony victimization is simply to point out that for every single piece of hate mail people like Malkin get for their hate-filled screeds, we could provide 10,000 examples of extreme right-wing ugliness to counter.

Go back to making claims that John Kerry shot himself to get his Purple Hearts, you whiny liar.

It only takes one of them to write a book so that the rest of them can feel all victimized.

Republicans are masters of taking isolated instances to invert broad realities. Reagan did it with a 'welfare queen' to paint everyone in need as a cheat.
