Anyone watch Law and Order:SVU last night?
They finally gave Fred Thompson a great line. It'a about time. He said "I may be pro-life, but I am more pro-law."

It's a great episode. It was about abortion. They brought up the morning after pill and parental permission for abortions.

1. The same Fred Thompson
who squires Bush's nominees through supreme-court-school...the same Fred Thompson raising money for Republican legal fees for their current "troubles"?

Ick.

2. I know I can't stand him
He is on both the Law and Orders I watch and he always has some obnoxious RW talking point as a line. The only reason I still watch is that he is in only one or two scenes on each show.

It was great to see them give him a line like he had last night though.

3. In the End it was the Fundie Positions...
... which took it on the chin. Let's see:

father who shuns older daughter because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy scares younger daughter into a secret abortion, check.

Nefarious doctor, running a phony abortion clinic gets caught in fraud, check.

And, as you mention, hard-line, conservative DA gets come-upance on who the real law-breakers were, check.

6. you ARE being facetious, right? real clinics can't
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 11:30 PM by ellenfl
stay open because of the rw violence against them and you think fake clinics are all over the country? pretty soon the back alley clinics will be back in business, tho'.

{edit} oh, that kind of fake clinic. i wonder if they get harassed too? i guess if there are no abortion protesters outside of them it would be a pretty good indication that they are fake.

10. Yes, I thought it was a great episode
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 11:33 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
It explored the issue from the point of view of "pro-life" as in the life of this girl which is often forgotten in favor of the "life" of the fetus.

I love Law and Order SVU, I know CI is supposed to be more "cerebral" but I just prefer SVU. Maybe because the victims tend to be the neglected in our society.

12. I prefer SVU to the other L&Os, too...
...always have. It has a great cast, and the plots aren't always predictable. I thought last night's show was really good and definitely food for thought. I also really like Cold Case on Sunday nights. I almost always get choked up at some point. That show has a lot of heart for a cop series.

14. Love Law & Order in all its incarnations, but the unbelievable...
...thing about Fred Thompson's character is the notion of a successful conservative politician with a (slightly) Southern accent in Manhattan. Los Angeles, maaaybe. Manhattan? Huh-nuh.
