FBI Warns of E-Mail About Surveillance>>>>>>>>>>
The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued an alert Monday about a scam involving unsolicited e-mails, purportedly sent by the FBI, that tell computer users that their Internet surfing is being monitored by the agency.

The users are told they have visited illegal Web sites and are instructed to open an attachment to answer questions.

The FBI did not send these e-mails and does not send any other unsolicited e-mails to the public, an agency statement said. As many harmful computer viruses are located in e-mail attachments, the FBI said it strongly encourages computer users not to open attachments from unknown recipients.

The FBI is investigating the scam. Recipients of these e-mails are asked to report them by visiting the Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov.

6. It's a virus - leave it the hell alone!
Delete it - and do not open the attachments. It's been going around all day and has caught a few people by surprise.

7. I'm a communications prof, not a lawyer, but
I can't imagine the FBI or CIA writing such a short and cryptic note and putting questions in an attachment.
And the exclamation point after "Please answer our questions!" looks mighty suspicious.
Could be a phisher, more likely just some jackass.

10. no shit. They will drive up, knock your door down, and plead that
the patriot act allows them to peer up your asshole, into your hard drive and throughout your garbage because they don't like the fact that you lawyered up.
None of this e-mail crap.

They are the new gestapo. We just don't realize it yet.

Also remember never speak to the FBI without your attorney present

11. They don't send emails
They just show up if they don't like what they've heard about you.

Delete is your friend for things like this.

One does wonder if some site users might be targeted by Kool Aid Heads with a virus.

This is almost as good as "Bill Gates will send you $400 if you answer this e-mail"

Like the CIA or FBI is going to e-mail you a questionnaire because you visit "illegal" websites. Psst, there are no illegal websites. Websites may have illegal content, such as porn or pirated stuff but only the content is illegal not the site.
