Repuke compares war to football game - US wins body count (25-1)
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 02:28 PM by jefferson_dem
This is beyond sick. From USNews.com, Washington Whispers ->

In the Body Count War: U.S. Wins 25-1

Frustrated GOP lawmakers are desperate for President Bush to do more to show how troops are winning the war in Iraq, and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence has an idea: Tell how many insurgents the U.S. troops are killing, not just the American death toll. "This is football season," says the Republican, who takes time to mourn with constituents who lose family members in combat. "People want to know if we're winning or losing . . . what's the score." Fresh from a trip to Iraq, Pence says he knows the score: just over 2,000 Americans dead, compared with 50,000 to 60,000 enemy combatants.

2. Mr. Pence is a living example ...
... of why helmets MUST be worn in football games, i.e. to prevent the kind of brain injury that causes people to say ridiculous things.

3. We were "winning" in Vietnam with a body count.
Certainly we were kill many more "insurgents" (men, women, children,... anything that gets killed by the US military is defined as an "enemy combatant") in Vietnam than they were killing US troops. No doubt.

We know how that turned out. The US military will be forced to withdraw from Iraq. Our job is to hasten that day.

16. Mogadishu was really one-sided, too

18 US soldiers and estimates of possibly more than 1,000 Somali dead in that one day.

The only problem is that there are less than 300 million Americans & over 6 billion in the rest of the world.

4. It's aways been a game to Conservatives
Whether you speak of world conflicts or the war of ideas. Why do you think the Right is populated by many that push war and profit from it, yet never find reason to partake in the actual combat.

Since they have only one rule and that is the one with the most wins means nothing is beyond them to sway the argument to acquire the most. In politics they don't have the best ideas, just the best think tanks to develop plans to sway the uninformed.

6. When the most advanced weapons systems in the world, with DU and white
phosphorous thrown in for good measure, are used on a third-world people, one expects a rather good kill ratio. Hopefully none of those "enemy combatants" were small children or the very elderly.

9. Here's Pence's war record:
Congressman Mike Pence was born in Columbus, Indiana, graduated from Hanover College in 1981 and earned his Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Indiana University, School of Law in 1986.

Following graduation from law school, Mike Pence first ran for Congress in 1988 and 1990. In 1991, Pence was named President of a conservative state think tank based in Fort Wayne known as the Indiana Policy Review Foundation.

<snip>

Mike describes himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order."

"Mike describes himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order."

What could be more 'Christian' than equating body bags with 'high scores' and 'winning'?

Jesus wept.

13. I remember;
delivering newspapers in the late 60's and early 70's. I read the front page as it was the only thing for a kid my age to do in the afternoon considering the circumstances. One of group of headlines that caught my eye and has remained with me all these years is that they used body counts extensively back then. So many Viet Cong killed vs Americans killed. It seemed to me to be like so many baseball box scores. After the war, it was shown that most of the figures for the 'enemy' were vastly exaggerated. I remember the picture of that naked young girl running toward the camera, crying, because she had had napalm land on her. I remember that South Vietnamese soldier with an outstretched arm holding a pistol to a bound Viet Cong's head milliseconds before the shot. I remember pictures of the last helicopter taking off from atop the US embassy symbolically ending our commitment there. I don't want similar bad memories haunting my children's mind. End the war. Soldiers come home!:cry:
