The U.S. Army is a haven for environmental activism.
Has anybody seen this commercial for Army recruiting? The ad for Goarmy.com promotes the U.S. Army as a place where somebody who has a love for the environment might come to foster environmental protection. Yeah right! LOL! This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long time. Every military base that has closed as a result of the BRAC commission has become an instant Superfund site. Maybe that is what they envision, "Hey! Do you love the environment? Well if you don't mind wearing this nuclear, chemical, and biological contamination suit then you can help the U.S. Army clean up the colossal mess we have made world wide." That is, if you don't mind sacrificing your reproductive organs for the sake of environmental activism, cause whatever the U.S. Army has you doing, you can be damn sure that you won't be able to have children afterward. Also, something tells me you shouldn't volunteer the fact that you are a "tree-hugger" to anybody in boot camp.

1. US Military Have Always Been Aware Of The Importance Of The ...
environment.

The greatest peace lovers have always been men of war. Not many who have to fight the battle are eager to have it started.

4. Guess that explains it. None of the warmongers in this administration
have ever actually been in the military....

2. i despise that commercial... also, have you noticed...
how in all of those commercials where the kids are rehearsing what they'll say about joining the military, the families are minorities and appear to be living in poor neighborhoods?

where are the white suburbanite kids pulling up to the house in their hummers to talk to mom about joining the army?

7. Yeah, most people concerned with the environment
are middle class and have a liberal arts education.

8. Don't forget
The fact that former military installations represent a huge chunk of Superfund sites in the U.S. Hell, there are neighborhoods in DC where some poor schlep trying to dig to build a basketball court for his kids would come across a dump of WWI-era chemical weapons like mustard gas. The Army never kept records of where it was dumping this stuff, and the land was afterward sold for development. The water and soil have higher than normal levels of arsenic and other deadly chemicals, but the official word is that "everything is fine, don't worry about that rare form of cancer that your 5-year-old has."

And that's not even considering the nuclear issues: Hanford, Paducah, the hydrogen bomb sitting off the coast of South Carolina.
