No More Wimps Representing Democrats On FOX
This truly needed to be said:

I’m generally anti-tirade, but I detest that millions of people watch wimps and incompetent debaters represent Democratic / progressive positions on FOX.

When will the progressive movement object in earnest to the likes of Alan Colmes – who Robert Greenwald’s film Outfoxed rightly points out is a weak, “squirrelly” faux-Democrat? FOX leaves the hapless Colmes out to whither against a polished, in-the-loop, smoothly-deceptive right-winger, Sean Hannity.

Friday night’s Hannity & Colmes introduced America to yet another weak, incompetent debater: Rep. Bob Filner, a Democrat I never heard of from California and hope never to hear from again.

2. They're not even Democrats - they're "normal" Republicans before neocons
There are no Democrats there. They have a traditional moderate Republican playing a Democrat so that the worst they can do in an argument is lose on the side of traditional Republican argument before they mostly turned into lying sociopathic murderers.

Fortunately I never EVER watch Faux, so I miss all the sorry ass games.

26. Agreed! All dems should stay away from Fox and treat it for what it is...
...a RW propaganda outlet.

When asked to appear, dems should laugh in their faces and WALK AWAY!

10. There was nothing about Clark in the article, but someone
posted about his abilities in the comments section.

I love how he punches them, ignores them, laughs at them and out-smarts them every time. The last time he was on, he actually took the mealy-mouthed words out of Insannity's mouth - Sean was speechless.

:loveya: that Clark. ;)

11. you're making my point for me
this article isn't about Clark. It's about Dems who can't hold their own, or who lack proper debating skills when faced with jackals like Hannity.

Clark is the exeception, not the rule.

13. I know... I'm agreeing.
I just thought that should have been pointed out in the original post... that all the rest of the Dems on Faux are wimps, except Clark.

That's all.

I'm not angry or challenging you or anything. :hi:

8. Unfortuantely we have no control.
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 09:19 PM by Opposite Reaction
If I could reach out with my mind Uri Geller-like and mentally clamp down with a psychic kung-fu grip on the prostate gland of some pale whale what calls itself Democrat everytime it appears like a limp dishrag on some cable shit-fest spouting RNC-approved "opposition" talking points I would. Ain't gonna happen.

So, what can we actually do about it?

EDIT: If I could write, I would.

9. This is a popular gambit used by RW media
Talk shows such as Hannity and Colmes and Scarborough Country invite weak advocates to make the progressive position on a given issue look bad. The only way they can win a debate is by scheduling weak opponents.

14. How true
We went out earlier and the restaurant had Fox News on. Their token Dem interviewee was that congressman from Tenn who was indicted earlier this year.

19. That was Harold Ford -- his uncle John was the one that was indicted
Harold's straight up. His uncle's a state senator -- and a nut case. I think even Harold's said that "you can't choose your relatives".

15. Their plan still works. They are Faux democrats, just like it is a
ersatz news station.

They would about as easily place a democrat with a capital D near a mike as they would admit that George Bush is a lying, cheating, spoiled failure.

16. The Good News
Very few people watch Fox News.

Of course, very few people pay attention to us, as well. But this is principally a political junkies' game.

Fox is not subverting anybody. They're preaching to the choir, and the choir is too busy looking at porn to give a damn.

Besides, the choirmaster is busy in the broomcloset with his lead soprano. Bishop Ailes himself recommended the choice.

17. I think Democratic spokespeople ought to be elected by us.
We should insist that anyone appearing on TV (or elsewhere) purporting to be a Democrat actually BE a Democrat; one who is officially authorized to speak for Democrats.

IOW, look for the union label.

Without it, any "Democrats" that Faux and the others put forward are nothing but whores and scabs.

IOW, Republicans.

24. Well, yeah--it's political theater for the repugs is all!
Not real reporting or real news. Just red meat theater. And Peeps' role is to be the weak, ineffectual fall guy.

Sick and twisted--but that's what it is. Theatre.

21. The Book of Daniel
In the 1971 novel "The Book of Daniel" by E.L. Doctorow he has two prominent characters, the mother and father of Daniel, listening to the radio in the 1950s where there is a debate between a conservative and liberal. The liberal is set up to lose on the show, but they still root for him. I don't think this is a new phenomenom. Michael Lewis said of the old Crossfire that he used to think Pat Buchanan was going to reach over the desk and snap Michael Kinsley in two.

When I watch TV I try to watch Democracy Now on public access TV, and also C-SPAN which is somewhat neutral, and sometimes PBS, which is only half-corporate. All the corporate stuff is garbage. Radio is even better, Air America and Pacifica is broadcast locally. Forget Fox, NBC is owned by GE which is a military contractor - what do you think their presentation of stuff will be like?

27. You won't usually see Hannity/O'Reilly debate someone tough.
They're like the 5th grade schoolyard bully who looks for 2nd graders to prey upon.

O'Reilly just recently had a twice convicted sex offender on his show. Now, how easy of a target is that to bully?

I'd love to see Bill Clinton on Hannity or O'Reilly, but you know that won't ever happen, they're both too afraid of him.

28. It would certainly make my life easier
I keep trying to tell my wingnutty mo-mom who only watches Fox that the Democrats and so-called liberals who appear on Fox with any regularity aren't representative. Oh, what the heck - I tell her they're not real, because that's the kind of false statement that's capable of penetrating her brain.
